You do realize you're talking about a non-existing option? He got paid for his stake in the company: "I had a small amount of equity in Omgpop, I received a compensation for that, and that was never at stake in this decision. The amount is not going to change my life [..]"

Did one man alone resist when Zynga bought out Draw Something developer Omgpop? His reasoning is one I share, especially with regard to being able to fully own and control projects I make on my own time.

"Zynga has an Austin studio, where several good friends of mine work. Yet I had never applied to Zynga. Why? Because the company's values are completely opposed to my own values, professionally and creatively. Because I believe that developers are at the front lines of game development and deserve to be treated well, and I didn't trust Zynga to do so. All this was still true -- except that their complete unwillingness to negotiate with me only confirmed my concerns. Why on earth was I even considering joining?"

Happy to hear (on a pure ego-note) that the bombcast crew seemed to think this would have been a great idea for ME3. Ref: Giantbomb Podcast 2011-03-13. Sad it didn't make it.

They're already far over the goal.

I don't really get this model though. If they want me to invest up front like they, they need to give me a cut of the profits.

If they can get donors to cover the full cost, why complicate matters? Now, if they were trying to raise $10M, that'd be another thing...

I'm wondering if this is the most successful Kickstarter project in history.

I was wondering that too, and after checking Kickstarter's most funded projects...yeah. It's very well on its way to crushing all others.

It's not up on slashdot yet. I expect a "small" jump in the graph when that happens.

> "and come up with new legislation that addresses Internet piracy while protecting free and open access to the Internet.”"

It's like they're compelled to create new legislation even where none is needed. There's never any question of "DO we actually need more legislation", it's always "NEW legislation, but let's deal over the details!". Copyright terms longer than a lifetime isn't enough? The DMCA isn't enough? What /IS/ enough? What terms are agreeable to these people? Copyright terms of forever, and the right of a copyright-holder to kill people outright on suspicion of linking to a site the copyright-holder doesn't like?

The only way to stop piracy the the degree these people clamor for, is to enact a totalitarian regime with an "Internet" deattached from the world at large. And let me remind you; piracy exists in china, so getting to their level of civil liberties abuse IS NOT ENOUGH to stop piracy. BECOMING CHINA ISN'T ENOUGH. Can these critters get that through their skulls?

End censorship, not piracy.
