My favorite SRPG series of all time, Fire Emblem Awakening is a return to top form for the franchise. A wonderful cast of characters and some interesting new classes and abilities leave the formula feeling fresh. My only complaint with the series is that I feel the animation has suffered since the jump to 3D, the sprites in earlier games had much more character than the 3D models of Awakening/the console games.

As a longtime veteran of the Tales games, Tales of Xillia was an excellent, if somewhat familiar, continuation of the series. The Tales games follow a similar style to the Bioshock 'constants and variables', there is always the abuse of magi-tech, a mysterious girl, and an alternate dimension/planet; and yet I always enjoy re-experiencing the same story told anew. Xillia, with its deep combat system and huge world to explore, was an absolute pleasure.

A truly funny and unique story as an unreliable narrator guides you though his daring exploits as a bounty hunter in the wild west. Mixed that with enjoyable shooting and bullet time mechanics, and you have a great, albeit short, experience.
