What's the trend in these awards ? Undertale and bloodborne getting completely snubbed.

I really wonder how they'll fair on the top 10. Both games have appeared on several of the staff member's GOTY lists, but neither have seen much support thus far.

I'm sorry I usually don't get pissy about things like this but people talking about Hotline Miami 2 and how it is disappointing really irks me. For several reasons chiefly among them is most of the complaints that i've seen levied against the game is that they force you to use guns or choke points.

This is false. There are some sequences that require the use of guns because the game scripts it like that but other than those sequences you are entirely free form to how you approach levels. Hotline Miami 2 however is a MUCH MUCH harder game than its predecessor. Which, I'm actually quite thankful for because honestly once you get the Tony Mask in HM1 the game is a cake walk.

You just single punch everyone to death. Hotline Miami 2 is a murder puzzle. You're forced to think way more than in HM1 where you could just bum rush into most levels and just mash the attack button until everyone was dead. Once you start piecing together a run in a level and figuring out how to manipulate the A.I. just the way you want them to move HM2 becomes an incredible game.

I'm with you. Hotline Miami 2 always felt like a sequel in the truest sense in that the difficulty ramp is connected to the end of the first game and continues that progression. If you play them back to back it feels completely natural. These moments that Alex describes as thinking in the moment and managing to survive just sound like he messed up and got lucky. I felt like Hotline Miami was my first taste of the kind of game they were making and the sequel is the real test of what I've learned. It's hard and real punishing. By the end of Hotline Miami 2 (and hard mode) I felt like I had mastered that gameplay and it was incredibly rewarding.

Yeah, it's a shame Bloodborne didn't even get a mention in that category. More than any other game this year, I felt Bloodborne had the most detailed environments. There was so much to look at in the city of Yharnam that is was even overwhelming at times. And while I can't deny that the sunsets in The Witcher 3 looked great, when the night went on in Bloodborne the entire atmosphere of previously explored areas changed with it. When the Lovecraftian nature of the game is revealed the aesthetic changes with it, becoming something even more sinister than before. I feel that saying it wasn't varied enough is unfair. There's plenty more to see in the game other than the city of Yharnam, it's just obscured in the latter half of the game to hide the twist.

I haven't even mentioned the dlc, which features my favourite area in terms of aesthetic.

It definitely looks neat, but there's no way I'm spending the fortune it costs to get everything just to have the full experience.

I'm a little concerned that the full game will end up being a little content sparse, especially compared to the recent Battlefield games, but what's there seems alright. I'll probably pick it up if it doesn't turn out to be the hot mess BF4 was at launch.

@jacksukeru

There's dlc coming/out for the game that features the OPs and EDs for all P4-related anime. Unfortunately there isn't a dancer visible when you're playing the song, but instead a credit-less version of the animation.

(ignore me someone else answered the question)
