Hm...

The only think that comes to mind for me is Resident Evil, which was getting pretty stale until Resident Evil 4 came out.

As a massive Perfect Dark fan, I cannot wait to play the updated version of Perfect Dark on my XBOX 360 (even if the Nintendo fanboy in me thinks that the game still only belongs on the N64  ). Currently, the came is slated for release in March, and I am anticipating the launch day as much as anyone. Still, something is bothering me. The remake's current March release is only two months away from May 22, the ten-year anniversary of its original Nintendo 64 release, so why won't they just release it for the anniversary?

I feel crazy for saying this, but I would easily be willing to wait an extra two months to play the game just for the sake of having the novelty of the remake being released as a special "Ten Year Anniversary Edition". It just seems like such a perfect way to celebrate the release of what was, in my opinion, the best game that Rare ever made. Besides, there would be something special, if not magical, about the idea that I would be downloading the Perfect Dark port on the very day, ten years later, that little eight-year-old Emmenite was standing in line at Target to buy the game that would later become his second favorite videogame of all time.

Does anyone else agree with these sentiments, or am I just a crazy old man who is overly-obsessed with tradition?

It is really tough to pick a single most important historical figure, but I'll name  a few that I think had the biggest impact on shaping the world today.

Jesus, Mohammad, Karl Marx, Charles Darwin, the Wright Brothers and the German engineers who created the modern rocket.

I don't see why Hitler is getting so much credit.  He was a genocidal maniac who killed millions, but he was no more special than Pol Pot, Mao, or any of the countless other mass-murderers out there that have existed since the beginning of time.

I think that Metroid Prime probably should have won for 2002, but it's hard to say.  Vice City was one of the first games to show how music and atmosphere can make up for serious flaws in the gameplay, and it is still to this day my favorite game in the series.  At the same time, Metroid Prime had the best graphics ever seen at the time, revolutionary gameplay, and an incredible atmosphere.  If I'm not mistaken, it also founded the "in the helmet" viewpoint that has become so popular.

The more I think about it, the more I can see why Vice City was chosen, but what makes me feel that MP is more deserving is the fact that it was completely revolutionary in that it took a genre we thought could only be done as a side-scroller and brought it to the third dimension perfectly, whereas Vice City was only an improvement to the formula created by GTA III.

I'd call Kevin Costner and have him kill it from the inside.

Back in the good old days of Burnout 3 I would get kicked from games all the time for having an American accent.  I'm not sure why, but I felt like half the servers in that game were British.  Was that game just really successful in the UK, or what?

@tactis: Great!  You rock, man.  I appreciate the help.

Hm.... I wonder where Braid went, then.

A month or so ago, I got the inevitable Red Ring of Death so I was forced to send my XBOX back to Microsoft for repairs.  Just so I could still use my old XBOX Live account and keep in touch with my online buddies during the repair, I removed the hard drive so that could connect it to a friend's XBOX while he was a way and use his just like my own.  Everything worked perfectly, but when I tried to replay Braid, something strange happened.  The game is listed as being on my hard drive, but trying to play it brings be back to the very start of the game as if I had just downloaded it.  For a time I questioned whether or not I accidentally deleted the game and left the demo on the XBOX instead.  Still, I didn't think much of it.  It sucks, but I had already completed the game, so I decided not to worry about it.

Well, now that Shadow Complex has been released for download on XBOX Live, my Braid save file's fate has left me a bit unsure about whether or not I should rush out to download the new title.  Today I came up with a theory that maybe some sort of lock prevents purchased downloadable games from being played on XBOXs besides the ones on which they were originally downloaded, perhaps to prevent sharing.  This seems does not seem likely, but since my repaired XBOX is only days away from arriving, I don't want to download Shadow Complex only to have it not work when I take the hard drive back to my own XBOX.

Is anyone aware of such a system, or was my experience with Braid just some sort of fluke?

It's good to see that at least Nintendo isn't totally oblivious to the lameness of their press conferences.  Honestly, though, Nintendo hasn't had a truly memorable one since they introduced Reggie.  I usually don't want to wish any bad upon anyone, but that Cammie girl has got to go.  We might as well get Sarah Palin up there as their spokesperson.

But I guess we can't blame the guys who make the presentations too much.  Really, it's Nintendo's fault for not having any games worth showing us.
