All this bullshit is exactly why affiliate links are banned on most forums (or at least have very strict rules), because it encourages spamming and promotion of your own affiliate link and now people are arguing over it.

@mast You said @stimpack should post in his own topic. As if that helps in any way. Then we have 2 buddy link topics + the buddy links in the stickied posts. Then I decide I want to get a little isk and start my own topic. Pretty soon everyone's posting there own affiliate links and spamming the eve forum to hell.

If you don't want other people posting affiliate links, then don't post your own. Your own topic isn't some amazing write-up that took you hours to create that @stimpack is now leeching off. It's just one topic where you get the first word, and users have to scroll down to find his post. Not a big deal.

The free EVE: Odyssey expansion has launched, and if you're interested in trying out the game there's plenty of positive additions and changes to the game.

Check out the official EVE Odyssey trailer:

New Additions in Odyssey

There are already plenty of changes in Odyssey that are going to have bigger impacts on longer term players, but those aren't of much note to someone just starting eve. Here are some changes that will affect you!

  • Big Changes to Exploring - If you're interested in pursuing a career in exploration in EVE, the changes in Odyssey make that much more attractive. There's a new sensor overlay that shows anomalies in space, changes to probe scanning that make it faster and easier, new scanning modules and more loot to be grabbed
  • Hacking Minigame - A new hacking activity you will have to complete at sites to unlock loot drops. And when you do, better be fast, because you'll have a few seconds to grab the loot that pops out into space before it disappears.
  • New Exploration Tutorials that will teach you everything you need to know about the career.
  • Improvements to UI with new Radial Navigation Tool - Not a huge change, but a potentially easier way to interact with the game world
  • Sound improvements. Things sound better!
  • New travel transitions when jumping, Nicer looking station hangers, Your pod blows up better
  • Tons and tons of other changes as well as smaller tweaks

Now Watch the (CLEARLY much higher production value) Kite Co Video:

How Do I Sign Up?

Let me direct you over to the Kite Co thread, where you can learn how to grab a trial and join the giantbombing chat channel in game. You don't need to join the corp itself, but giantbombing chat will be your constant companion in the loneliest corners of space

FREE BONUS!

Hey duders! I'm new to EVE and just wanted to say hey and drop my name. I really have no idea about anything other then the super basics (I just finished the tutorials.) Will the rest of the stuff make sense later, like the corporations, shareholding, ect.?

As creeper said there is so much to learn. I've found I've learned something every day I play the game; sometimes a lot, sometimes a little. There are plenty of resources you can find through a google search if you have trouble with a particular aspect of the game or want to learn more about anything. This is certainly a game where you have to embrace learning and be prepared to read guides and wikis while you play the game (or just bug people all the time in giantbombing chat or rookie help.

Hows about this:

No Caption Provided

That is awesome! I did not know you could do that with a home printer. I have a pretty nice canon pixma I've never even used so I'll have to look into that!

Thanks Tomiko for the suggestion to submit the videos I've made here. Unfortunately I am not a 'crafty' person and creating digital media is more to my taste :)

All videos were made with sony vegas +

In order of creation:

First Recruitment video I made for Kite Co. I had only gotten in a couple of fleets and hadn't tried recording any in-game footage yet, so I made this in After Effects and added some general eve video footage to it.

Loading Video...

Kite Co. Space Trucking at War - I made this video when we were getting lots of wardecs. It was also an opportunity to try recording footage from our fleets and make a video. PVP videos bore me so I wanted to have a bit of a narrative/story in the video apart from things blowing up. I made this all in Sony Vegas since my workflow is a lot faster in it for basic stuff. The outro from the first video is the only after effects used here.

Progress - Couldn't think of a good title that would sum up what this video is, so that was what I chose. This was my most recent video made with a combination of sony vegas + after effects. I had a bunch of stupid ideas and decided to try putting them all together. Hand animating the moving kite co, concord, and enemy corp icons over the wrestlers heads must have taken at least a couple of hours alone. In the future I will try to use after effects movement tracking where possible :P

Loading Video...

Kite Co Moves to Null Security - A documentary of Kite Co's official move from Orvolle to Poitot. Didn't capture mumble audio unfortunately, so had to do a lot of text narration.

Loading Video...

Kite Co in EVE: Odyssey - Wanted to make a video for the odyssey expansion that might get people who are interested in it, into the game and potentially the corp. Themed it around the idea of 'more'. Wanted to include odyssey as well as recruiting for kite co so I broke it into 2 parts: the first half about changes in odyssey and the second half focused on the changes with the corp.

So i get into Kite Co. and, for a little while, it was cool. Mining around, friendly members and just having fun in EVE. There was a problem with the little wars they had that messed with the more passive activity, annoying yeah, but added some fun tension.

And then they accuse me of spying and kick me with no evidence or serious argument to support the claim.

And when i argued this on their public chat, they kicked me from that too.

Seriously, you advertised this as NOOB FRIENDLY then discriminate against new players for your own paranoid fears in a rather petty war. If you advertise and wish to keep a Noob friendly Corporation, you need to compromise your security for the sake of your community's members. I could barely make ISK let alone enact Espionage against a up-start corporation.

I agree, the corp is not new player friendly at all and the paranoia about spies is just weird.

I'm just keeping busy doing career missions to replace all the ships getting blown up by hostiles. One of these days the corp is bound to do something useful.

Oh yeah, and it appears the ISK is a lie (re: splitting the profits from a buddy link subscription). I subbed using a buddy link and paid for my first month and no ISK from whatever whizbang item they got to sell.

Trust No One, not even your corp members.

If you mean not player friendly in the sense that we are at war and you can be killed by our enemies, then you would be correct. People in corp are quite happy to give you advice if you ask though, and if you joining one of the fleets is in my opinion the best way to start getting a sense of how PVP works.

As people and myself have pointed out in chat, if getting killed by war targets is a problem for you, all you have to do is stay away from the area around orvolle and instead run missions or do whatever you are doing in caldari, amarr, minmatar space.

And as regards buddy links - not everyone here who has posted buddy links here have offered to give ISK back upon subscription. If they didn't make that offer, you shouldn't have used their signup link if you wanted a kickback. If they did, then you should contact them rather than telling us in a post which that person will likely never read.

What bothers me, and what creates a deep ambivalence in many bitter vets, is a feeling that eventually creeps in - rather than playing, I'm being played, delayed and manipulated. The pressures systemic, economic, social or otherwise dictate my behaviour.

To me the ideas of delaying and manipulating the player are aspects that define most of today's MMOs, not just EVE. They are always focused on making building your character take time, and making rewards and accomplishments slow or difficult to acquire in order to make them meaningful and keep players engaged.

Of course EVE takes this a step further with time based skill training which is simply a different way to limit player progression, not necessarily better or worse. The obvious downside is that it can make playing sometimes feel pointless since your next meaningful upgrade could potentially be weeks away. On the other hand, there is no leveling grind to worry about in the traditional sense - which means you can play for a few minutes a day and know your character is still improving.

Most sandbox games I have tried (Like Darkfall, Mortal Online, Xyson, and Salem) also make any meaningful accomplishments in the game world require many man-hours of work. Unfortunately I do not see how that can be changed as for anything to be meaningful, it must be difficult to acquire. That means we're stuck with resource grinding, farming and other repetitive actions that may cause players to burn out. I do think that EVE offers more ways to make in-game currency than most other MMOs do. Player created jobs and contracts, scamming, and the amazing EVE economy all stand out to me; I don't have to grind missions if I know how to make isk off of someone else.

I was sorry to see you kicked out and still cannot say I am 100% certain that you are a spy even after getting some additional details from a couple of people involved (though they did have some decent reasoning for why you were kicked). One additional factor that I think looks pretty bad is the fact that you just signed up to the forums 3 days ago (and I don't think I'm exactly giving away much here, that's pretty obvious). If I had my way, anyone who had not been a GB member for at least a month would be unable to join the corp (and it seems that management may be making some changes there at least in the future). Unfortunately as Mishirosen pointed out in chat, explaining exactly why they kicked you would only assist any other espionage efforts in remaining undetected. The downside of that is that regular members cannot judge for themselves if you were terminated from the corp fairly, which is less than ideal.

I would suggest to Kite Co staff that in the future they take the time (perhaps a day or two) to confirm without a shadow of a doubt that potential spies are definitely providing intel to our enemies. Even if there is a major op going on, suspecting a spy can allow you to take steps to prevent them from ruining your operation.

At this point I would suggest moving on, what's done is done, and if you were falsely accused there isn't much to be done about it.
