bizarre ep. i've never been a fan of the "serious" online show episodes but this one was especially hard to listen to.

exploring the world of online mental health content could be interesting but it just felt like i was being scolded lol. the framing of the issue feels totally disconnected from what i feel is a listenership of generally savvy internet users - the hosts are talking as though they think they're directly addressing an audience who are about to go out and listen to instagram influencers regarding life decisions and mental health, which i don't think is the case! do they really think we're so credulous that we're unable to discern the difference between content from verified mental health professionals and grifters?

moreover the "get therapy" meme is getting pretty tired! the hosts freely acknowledge that therapy is extremely expensive and inaccessible worldwide, but regardless it's ostensibly the sole solution to all thorny personal problems. we mustnt seek help from other sources, especially not online communities (which are all inherently cultlike) because to lose the mystical Personal Journey granted to us by therapy would be bad for some reason. despite criticising the kneejerk "cut him out of your life" line that gets trotted out every time someone online has an interpersonal quarrel, tamoor, lucy, and jeff just have a different line for your issues: just go to therapy dude.

anyway better help dot com use the offer code "bomb" for your first session free

Lovin' these! Knew some people who had a cat named "cat"... Not sure if its related, but they had a lot of turnover with their pets who seemed to die or run away more frequently than you'd expect.

if i remember correctly one jeffrey gerstmann has or had a cat without a name/called cat. the reasoning was (again by recollection) "it doesn't come when its called anyway so who cares"

I think jess is great but she's awfully unashamed about being a theatre kid, which frankly I can't abide
