The Thing stands as his best, and my favorite, followed closely by They Live. Last year, around Halloween I think, I embarked on a quest to see all of his movies that I hadn't seen before. I was kind of surprised by some of my reactions. I really expected to like Ghosts of Mars and Starman but walked away feeling a bit meh. I was downright shocked that I enjoyed Memoirs of an Invisible Man so much and did a 180 on my opinion of In the Mouth of Madness. Looking at the list I now realize that there are a shitload of his movies that I love.
Couldn't have said it better. Despite my personal disappointment in Darksiders 2, I really thought Vigil had the most potential out of the handful of new-ish studios. I just played through the first Darksiders again and it is truly great and, with that feeling fresh in my mind, it drastically increases my disappointment that Vigil didn't get picked up. I don't think we've seen the last of the Darksiders IP but I will be right surprised if Vigil develops it.
Tina Sanchez, Jim Sterling, Arthur Gies, Chris Plante, Ryan Scott, the entire Kotaku staff, Tim Rogers, Jeremy Parish, and motherfuckin' Tom Chick. Though I am willing to admit that occasionally Sterling and Parish will spout off something that's not total bullshit. Also, I love Yahtzee, though I don't view him as an actual journalist.
God of War 3, Uncharted 2 and 3, inFamous 1 and 2, MGS4, Heavy Rain, Yakuza 4. I liked Journey but I just can't see how it's one of the best titles on the system, though I do admit it does some interesting things. PS3 exclusives, generally speaking, have all been pretty outstanding. Unless we're talking about Haze.
Batman Arkham City is the most recent one that I take some pride in. Having to do the all of the challenge rooms/campaigns four times was a pain in the balls but I soldiered through. Also, Catwoman is a worthless asshole. Doing her predator challenges took years off my life.
Hard to believe that it's been 4 years since that went down. After getting tired of Gamespot's bullshit around 2004-ish I migrated to 1UP and there I stayed until, well, Giant Bomb came around. 1UP Yours is solely responsible for getting me into podcasts and was a highlight of my week many times. 1UP ceased being itself after that point and frankly it makes me kind of sad to think about what it's become. I would kick an elderly woman down an elevator shaft to have Garnet Lee, John Davison, Shane Bettenhausen, and Mark McDonald do a regular podcast together again.
First: welcome! Second: I think it looks pretty great. There's entirely too much potential for awesomeness with the whole mysterious, scary island setting so I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on it. I'm also mildly curious to see how it will be received when it finally ships. I'd wager that the internet will continue to hate on Tomb Raider / Lara Croft since it's what the cool kids do. I'd also wager that it'll do well critically but not sell to expectations.
1UP Yours is solely responsible for getting me into podcasts and I hung in there as long as I could, through cast changes, name changes and all the other bullshit. It was supremely shitty to see 1UP get gutted and become so irrelevant.
