My purchase price for The Flame in the Flood was zero dollars... so the value proposition was as good as it could possibly be! Yet it completely failed to engage me and I bounced off after two or three hours of being patient with it.
Nice blog post. Prey is a hugely impressive body of work and has a clear and (almost) fully realized ambition. It took me a good half dozen hours to fall for the game but once I was absorbed, I was completely hooked. I'll be amazed if this doesn't end up ranking in my top five games at the end of the year.
Phil Spencer comes across a good bloke. Definitely the realest of the console company representatives and I appreciate his consistent positivity and willingness to speak in positive ways about MS's competitors (and the games industry in general). I have a massively improved view of the Xbox brand compared to a few years back.
I have a mid spec PC and an Xbox One and I think MS are making a reasonable case that my next purchase should be their new box rather than a higher spec PC. I really do appreciate the fact that if I do go for the PC option though, that they've also got that covered.
Overall pretty solid conference.
On the subject of 4k, I feel similarly about it as I did about HD when it arrived, i.e. the arrival of a games console with HD games was the trigger for me to buy an HD monitor. I see no reason why this time would be different?
Excellent review. This game took about 5 hours to really get its claws into me but once it had, I was absolutely enthralled by it. Very close to being a master work and certainly one of the best games I've played this generation.
Horizon is a phenomenal game. I bought PS4 just to play it, then platinum trophied it after 80 hours. I haven't enjoyed a video game more for the last 5 or 6 years. I haven't played Zelda yet though so perhaps that's even better?
