Except how many times a year do you think Microsoft is going to run 90% off sales like Steam does 3-4 times. If your answer is anything other than zero you are fooling yourself.

If I have to pay a fee to play a used game I have bought from a store or anyone, then maybe xbox one isn't for me. Who are they to tell me I can't even give my game to a friend and let them play it? So if it going to be true, if I was to lend my mate a game he would have to pay to play it on his system. That would be madness.

Steam doesn't allow me to lend my games or even buy second hand games. I hear nothing but praise for Valve and Steam.

I'd love to live in this magical land where Steam runs 90% sales 3-4 times a year.

That was one of the beauty's of console gaming though, if you had a game and your friend wanted to try it out you could just lend them the game. This would also limit the used game market for those that buy games, beat them immediately, and then sell them for others buy used.

And those days are over. publishers don't want you lending and sharing, they want you buying! Even if it's a reduced amount they still want to make more money than the currently are with the way the second hand market works.

You also don't pay full price plus tax for digital steam games, you can't have it both ways. Valve were incredibly lucky that they managed to build the system they have in such a way that the consumer feels they're getting a benefit for buying into the Steam service, not a barrier.

It might be different where you live but in the UK I pay the same amount of tax if I buy a game digitally or physically.

There is no expectation to be able to do that with digital games. However when you buy a boxed copy those expectations change.

The pricing of games on Steam are also completely fucking different from the pricing scheme on console games, boxed and digital.

Steam price of Metro Last Light - £34.99.

Amazon price of Xbox Metro Last Light - £34.99

Yes, Steam has a lot of sales but recently Xbox have been having a lot more sales that have been close to the quality and prices of Steam Sales.

It's not just digital games, so many physical PC games use Steam. You install from the disc, put in a key and that's it. It works exactly the same as it sounds like this will work except the disc will still have some value and be able to used again on the Xbox
