I completely agree and I think a lot of criticisms of PW exaggerate the grinding aspect. I'm not denying there isn't any grinding in the game because there is A LOT if you want everything, but to get through the main story there really isn't much. Just working through the Main Ops, fultoning any POW's and some enemies, and putting your R&D team to work on appropriate weapons/items between those missions is plenty time efficient to work through the Main Ops. The game really is that easy and can be completed with a lot of the starting items without much difficulty. Even getting to the final ZEKE battle isn't too much of a hassle, by the time that happens you would have fought all the AI mechs and 2 Peace Walker battles and chances are you'd have most/all the required parts for ZEKE. If not then just a quick replay or even one of the Extra Ops versions of those missions would suffice.
Also some of the Motherbase meta-game stuff isn't required. I remember going through all the Main Ops without even touching the Outer Ops.
