@humanity: It was also the case for the first RDR. I’m not saying it’s not a valid concern, it definitely is, and I don’t remember the GTAs as I didn’t replay those.

I had RDR on PS3 which was considered to be a bad version. I’ve ordered this one on Xbox one S, which also seems to be the worst version. While I’d rather have a 30 fps lock obviously, I’ll wait and see before being angry at it. Those games are massive endeavour that surely tax those consoles to the maximum, I can accept a less than ideal performance if it doesn’t break the game completely.

This is suffering in the most adorable way I’ve seen. I’m very cynical of that kind of stuff and with the popularity of the show they could’ve make something decent, it’s an obvious cash grab and that’s shitty. That aside, your story is very cute.

Not much but like, that’s no excuse? They’re still awful (except the Grand central one).

I remember dying 2-3 times in the Rhino/Miles one simply because I didn’t know where to go. Every other time I died was because I was trying to rush through, but I did because of how mindlessly boring I found them.

They’re poorly designed and boring, never frustrating. I still wish they weren’t there, I’d take cutscenes over that any day.

Just want to make clear, I’m sure the dev had a better developed idea when they were thinking about those and it didn’t end up as wanted or they didn’t have the time to make them as interesting as they wanted. I’m not trying to attack them here.

I mistake them all for Helmut Kruger sadly and, as such, I sadly can’t participate in this thread.

But yeah this is a bad idea all around.

@csl316: Basically. It’s hard to explain.

You have a massive book with the identities of all crew members (there’s 60 I think), their name, rank and nationality.

When you find a dead body you have a magic watch that lets you see the moments of their death frozen in time.

With that you need to identify who the body is, how did they die and who killed them from a list of option. You can’t really brute force it because the game will only confirm your answers in set of three (if you identify three people successfully) which creates too many variables to just guess.

I hope this makes sense. It’s very much a detective game, but it’s much more freeform than the Sherlock Holmes serie, making you feel like you’re actually solving shit instead of just picking from two options.

I’m not far (identified 6 people so far) but I love what I’ve played of it. The interface seems a bit fiddly (in a way insurances book probably are). My issue with it is that it makes me feel stupid, it felt super hard identifying those last three person and the game is telling me I should be able to identify more...

I’m gonna stick with it even if it takes me forever to solve anyway, I love different stuff, detective stories, and I think Papers, Please is one of the best game ever made so.

@sumbog: That’d be dope.

While I found what they've showed of the multiplayer to look cool, I really wish the one vs one thing would be a Spyparty/The Ship/AC multiplayer thing where you need to act like an AI and try to find someone’s that’s not an AI so you can kill them.

I’m sure it’s not a new idea and it would need significant work, hence why it’s not there, but I still can dream.

@rebel_scum: It’s kind of the point of how the marketing cycle work though. You rarely if ever get the facts when it’s happening, it’s always after the fact because then people have more chances to talk. Again, not blaming you for buying it as I will too, but like even without specifics, it’s fair to assume working conditions are less than ideal. By your judgement we’ll get facts later, and they won’t be great I’d wager, but we won’t have the current one so it’ll still be unfair to judge? I think that’s purposefully ignoring the smoke here.

Jason Schreier said he’s working on a piece about Rockstar current working conditions so hopefully we’ll get information about it in time, but it rarely happens because such information is simply rarely available.

@rebel_scum: Except there’s multiple ex-rockstar employees that complained about the treatment there, even one that the OP quoted in their initial post, and also multple sources that corroborate the bad working environment? Especially that Rockstar has an history with bad working practices. Like it’s not hard to understand why current employees don’t want to bad mouth their current employer, hence why you don’t see those takes, like you didn’t see them for Telltale before they all got fired, but you heard the rumblings.

Hell I said I’m still buying the game earlier but acting like people are overreacting out of a misquoted Houser interview is missing the whole thing by a mile.

I have a preorder up and I won’t cancel it. In a way, considering what was said around the time Red Dead Redemption came out, it’s no surprise that Rockstar uses those kind of practice to push out their games.

It’s definitely starting to sour me and I’m thinking about stopping buying AAA games from known offenders, at least day one. That being said, I think the « vote with your dollars » option is very much short sighted. Most people don’t care/are not informed enough and will still buy the game that looks the best, so it’ll keep happening. Even if all of us that follows gaming news would stop buying those games, they’d still do massive numbers, so the solution isn’t there.

And frankly I dunno what that solution is. Obviously game makers need to unionize, that’s not even a question, but as long as government entities give more power to the employers and not the employees, there’s going to be workforce exploitation in a lot of fields.

I’ve worked in video games a bit and in some similar fieds and this stuff definitely happens and it’s bad for everyone involved. It did sour me on the game, I kinda feel helpless about it. I don’t know for the future, I’ll think twice about buying big games but yeah, I wish I had better ways to support game makers.
