@topcyclist: I mean first you didn't acknowledge the fact that even Nintendo created a bunch of flawed games and fuck up sometimes, Skyward Sword like I said was borked beyond belief and not all their mainline games are hit even if they take their time. They fucked up with the WiiU, they fucked up a good part of the mobile output they tried, they fucked up with Sunshine, etc. You act like they hit 100% which is not the case at all.
Also, scope wise, with maybe the exception of Breath of the Wild, their game rarely push the technology and are rather focused on good design and great art, which lets them be safer on the technological side. Again, their multiplayer is always extremely limited, they rarely have these big systemics world (except BOTW, again).
But yeah the answer is just that they have a war chest and they're not always chasing the next hit. Looking at the Activision/EA or even the Microsoft of this world, it's obvious that they're looking for the next hit most of the time and throwing money at the problem until they magically find a solution, that's why Microsoft buys Bethesda or Activision or Minecraft at a loss and Nintendo on its side is not interested in big acquisitions. The failures of Nintendo felt way less massive cause they're not operating at a loss BUT stuff like the WiiU were a massive failure. They play it close to their chest and don't care about constant crazy expansion. Whether it's cultural or just the question of where the money comes from and who profit from it is not really important.
