@npfeifer: Of course it's expected but it's good to know the extent of those issues? I bought DQXI on Switch knowing that it running at 720p wouldn't bother me but I wouldn't buy Doom there because I want Doom to be at 60 fps and I'm okay to lose the portability for it. A perfect 60 fps vs. something that fluctuates between 40fps and 50fps IS A GLARING PERFORMANCE difference. It's not necessarily an issue in the sense that it is to be expected on a less powerful console, but it's still worth noting because it's something that someone would want to know before doing their purchase, this person is me (and others on here) and I do tell you that I definitely see the difference between 45 fps and 60 fps, or the one between 900p and 1080p. So your guarantee is wrong sorry.

Like I get hating on the fanboys using that stuff to dismiss the experience of others, but this is a side effect of the discussion, Digital Foundry doesn't pander to those crowd but fanboys will use anything they can to be idiots about it. Digital Foundry are not manufacturing outrage for view, they're just pointing facts about those products people pay hundreds, if not thousand of dollars to have access to. So I still don't understand what is your point in this.

Also, just on technical level, as someone who does work with gaming tools, it's interesting to follow Digital Foundry for that stuff.

If you want to play The Outer Worlds on the go, which is absolutely still a perfectly playable game, do you watch a Digital Foundry video about the Switch version and say "nah, this doesn't look nearly as good as an Xbox One X or high-end PC, I guess I'll pass". No, you don't. That's the absurdity of these kinds of graphical comparisons.

This is an absurdly bad take. I own all three console and a PC that can run games pretty fine. I often look at which is the best version before buying, hell they're (often) all the same price, why wouldn't I? Sometimes I'm fine sacrificing some performance for the Switch version, but it's good to have people going in the nitty gritty so I can make an informed choice. And like Outer Worlds is actually a bad example cause that game has issues on the Switch that are more than just a few small differences.

Like I get the hate towards people saying anything under 60 fps is unacceptable. When I was younger I was frustrated when critics would act like a game would be unplayable on the only console I own because, most of the time, it was fine. But critics can have access to all the available versions, so why wouldn't they comment on those differences? It's useful for me and plenty of users too.

I do small games on the side and I was always curious in RPG Maker as a tool to create simple looking tilemap-based world. My biggest issue about it, though I might be completely wrong about how the thing works, is that it doesn't seem to allow for much variety in the combat unless you engage with the scripting part of it? Like I don't think it would be possible to make something more akin to X-Com, I think it always implies that you will be using the random encounters + turn based type of JRPG combat. I might be wrong though. At that point I'm good enough with Unity that it would feel like a bad idea to start with RPG Maker, but on the other hand the idea of having less script to work on and more time to do asset and content creations sounds great.

Frankly the only tip I have if someone is interested is to not think too much about it? If RPG Maker seems like your jam, go for it and try it out. Learning any kind of game making skills will be useful even if you end up changing engines later on. The quicker you try, the faster you will be comfortable to undertake bigger projects.

I'm very thankful that they've been vocal about this and it makes me happy supporting them. I'm white so I've never been a victim of racism, but I have certain health conditions which make me lose my patience with people unwilling to engage with the idea of a better world. Seeing the outpouring of support towards BLM right now is invigorating to me.

Also a big thank you to Rorie and the mods team. These issues bring a lot of heated discourse and I'm certainly someone who can get annoyed, impatient and maybe too blunt towards some arguments that I've heard a thousand times. Keeping threads of discussions and comments open seems like a lot of work and I can't imagine how stressful it must be, but on the other hand I'm glad we can actually have some of those discussions here because I've definitely read some stuff that made me look deeper on particular subjects.

What's the point of having a discussion with someone who's obviously not listening. Like, even assuming that your well-meaning, which is a stretch really, you obviously don't care about learning about those issues.

Anyway I dunno there's plenty of resources on the history of white nationalism in police force, you can google that but don't ask anyone else to do the work for you, especially when hundreds of recommendations on the subject are being posted everywhere during those events.

Anyway I'm off here, flagging the thread, if you're really well-meaning start informing yourself please.

Absolutely no-one who's posted ACAB has given me an end-game of any sort.

Plenty are, you're just not listening. Also you said "from my perspective" before those bullet points.

Let me be clear here: your perspective is wrong. There's movies on the subjects, documentaries, research, books, whatever floats your boat, if you're not willing to do the work to educate yourself on those subjects you should stay silent.

Nobody here is responsible to educate you on the history of police violence in the US and everywhere else, nobody can in just a few forum post explain why your perspective is completely off the mark, you should do that work yourself.

  • By ratio, Black people interact with cops a much larger amount than any other group. This is due to criminal activity.

Hmmm what the fuck????

Let's start by massively defunding the police, give back to communities.

Like really your whole post just read as completely ignorant on the issues at hand, so why don't you just read on the subject? It's not the job of anyone here to educate you on the subject, but instead of blaming Abby's ACAB comment, maybe read on where that comment originated from and go from there?

There's literally thousands of people giving their opinions on the subject right now, it's really time for everyone to listen, but your comment makes me think you haven't been listening.

Edit: Every cop in the protests right now that are not putting their equipment down and quitting their job are also part of the problem, so there's more than just "a few" bad cops.

Abby tends to get more shit than the others and I think we all know why, but I’m glad she’s not backing down and is very outspoken about her opinions. Abby was right and she still is. Police is obviously a tool of white-supremacy right now (it arguably always was), any « good cop » should quit if they’re not morally bankrupt. If they can’t afford to do it, well at least they should be able to have the self-reflection to understand how they’re part of the issue.

@tearhead: Hey thanks for sharing, if anything you cannot be overtly cautious in those situations and I'm glad that the GB crew are being transparent on how they feel about what is happening.
