@frostyryan: You're absolutely right. The two styles of play aren't mutually exclusive. When I play alone I usually play competitive and take it seriously. When I'm with my friends, however, we play quick match or brawl and just have fun with it. People in quick play don't give a damn if you're following the meta or not, and if they do, why the hell are they playing quick play? All competitive games develop a meta, like you, I don't understand the negative mindset some people have around it.

This is a really nice post on the state of the Overwatch meta. I know some folks don't really like the current state of the meta, but I actually find it pretty fun. I definitely agree that the game desperately needs another main tank character, and this is from a Reinhardt main. I haven't really played much competitive in season two due to WoW Legion coming out, but speaking to my friends tells me that not much has changed from season one except an influx of Mei as well as Genji's dominance being toned down a bit. I hovered around ranks 63-65 in season one and at that level of play most games came down to which team had a better Genji. It's really nice that Blizz shortened his ultimate duration. I hope that in the long run Blizzard discovers a way to make Symmetra and Toblerone more viable at higher levels of play, if only to cut down on the monotony of characters you see picked.

I saw the film last night, and after digesting what I saw, I'm left with a pretty good impression of the movie. I'm a bit disappointed with how many parallels were made to A New Hope, but feel that the next movie has a great set up with where this movie left off. I'm a bit surprised at how few iconic alien species were shown in this film--no twi'leks, for instance. It's possible I missed some familiar aliens in the cantina scene, but would have to watch again to be sure. I hope that the next movie is more exotic. The technology exists to create really believable alien worlds, I want more of that and less planets that feel exactly like earth. This was one of the few things I felt the prequels did well. I'm about as pleased as I really could have been with a new Star Wars movie and I'm excited for the future of the franchise.

I'd like to join the guild. I've been playing GW2 on and off since launch and recently re-installed it to play some more. My tag is FixerofDeath.3579. I look forward to seeing you in-game!

I really like Patrick and the content that he was putting out on this site. That said, this is gross. I despise Kotaku. Won't be following Scoops on Kotaku. Sad day.

I'm sorry you've had to put up with a ton of garbage from terrible people. No one should have to fear for their lives just for working in the video game industry. Hopefully you are a role model for other women who are in similar positions. Please don't let those rotten apples stop you from doing what you do.

@shindig: You're probably right. Unfortunately, so many people are bothered by this that it will probably make the game more well known and successful than it would be if people would just choose to not be outraged when they don't have to be.

I have enjoyed the outcry this trailer has produced more than I will probably ever enjoy the game itself, so if anything I thank its creators for that. I watched the trailer and thought, "ha, that's pretty fucked up--whatever, the game looks kind of boring." Then I read comments on this site and on twitter and, man, I was not expecting so many people to be that bothered by it. It's just a game guys, stop looking to be offended by everything. You are the one who decides what offends you.
