@hassun Here's the Kotal video I was talking about, plenty of me doing the wrong thing and so on but basically I have the first half of the combo in my head ready to go and it's just a matter of getting to the point where the second half fires correctly. This is the combo: [36%] B14 xx(EX)DB1-F2-F1B2 xx DF2 I don't think I'm amazing at doing combos and this one is not a super impossible one but I could see it being rather irritating because f1b2 df2 is a pretty weird combo ender to execute.

f2,f2,b122,EXdf1,b14,db2

or

114,EXdf1,f2,b14,db2

And of course I only really play Sun God.

@hassun: Odd identification of those combos but alright.

For the first one the second 2 in b122 makes the timing extremely awkward (i.e. impossible in lag) and you're not really losing out on that much damage (41 to 38) if you just drop it and do b12, exdf1 etc. just do b14 when the opposing character is relatively close to the ground and you're good.

For the second one it's kind of a fun combo but not an overly arduous one, timing is a little smoother than the first combo and the starter isn't as terrible so it's a better combo overall I imagine.

I'll put up a video tomorrow since a whole bunch of other uploads are going currently but I might be too good at these two combos for it to be super helpful.

@fredchuckdave: Yeah the problem is mostly that I cannot reliably hit the b14 in the juggle.

Sorry about the name being weird. Afaik there are no really useful combos starting with b14 for Sun God (aside from stuff like b14 EX sunstone) so I didn't even consider that you would try to start with it.

Shout-out to the Persona finals from earlier today, I am very much excited for some more of that.

Welp, 4 Tanyas in top 8 (I guess maybe 3 if Sonic Fox sticks to Erron Black). I figured at least 2, 4 is a bit extreme. I can appreciate the difficulty of the combos and so forth but 4 is perhaps a few too many.

Well we know who's playing heel at EVO MKX this year.

USA representing hard in Ultra. So many good matches yesterday. I still think Bonchan will win though. He looked heads and shoulders above the competition.

@flstyle:That's actually a surprisingly meta comment, as Sonic Fox has been using the nigh useless charged overhead heel like it was a focus attack and run cancelling out of it to make a useless move somewhat useful (naturally charging it up all the way on occasion like a level 3 focus) prompting Godspeed to say "Dat heel doe!" yesterday.

@hassun: Since @l1ghtn1n betrayed me by living in another timezone I finally decided to try out Tanya online today and wound up with one of the coolest matches I've ever had. I played passably I suppose but first time I've been on the receiving end of a 50% Kotal combo; the guy I was fighting even sent me a positive message, the first one I've received in quite a while (I used to get a lot of props in Injustice because I played Lex Luthor). The way the screen shakes when you block while the totem is out is pretty amusing. The teleport drills might look scrubby but it is actually a legit 50/50, easy enough to react to offline though. Tanya is difficult to play and thus not particularly cancerous online, obviously an issue in tournaments until people figure out the counterpicks or (more likely) she gets "normalized."

@jayzilla: Mago is the overwhelming favorite for the time being, and will presumably continue to be going into EVO.

@fredchuckdave: Respect to him for playing Blood God!

For the record I think Smug will take USFIV. I also think the JPN players have been sandbagging to let USA think they have a chance at EVO.

@flstyle: Maybe a little, though Luffy has a 5% chance to win or thereabouts so sandbagging is likely not the best approach. Smug has a chance but he's playing against Kazunoko which is kind of like playing against himself; the self mirror match is always a struggle as Daigo/Xiaohai demonstrate.

114 is a decent starter but it has extremely poor range. Also if you hit the f2 you might as well go for 3 of them instead of 2. Front load those big damage hits to get maximum damage.

I felt so bad for Gustavo, but he probably has enough points to get into capcom cup even without an auto qual, since there are 32 total spots and 15 based on points of non-auto quals now. I still think if he hadn't played out of his damned mind and beaten Mago he was going to take home a third premier event, but his play after those first two games was immaculate. Unfortunetly it gave Kazunoko intel about how he handled dive kicks which may have cost him...

Now for Evo to see if the US is for real or if this was a blip. Hoping that we get more than our usual 2 but I have a feeling it may be worse, though Gustavo, Dieminion, Smug, and NuckleDu all are capable, though I feel Smug's playstyle is a little too unstable to make it through a tournament as large as Evo in terms of sheer number of entrants.

Evo is gonna be a bloodbath and it will be a shame if we got only one stream.
