Gamefly list for 2012

Same as the other lists on this topic with me. Just a way to keep track of what I've been playing, thoughts and whatnot.

List items

  • Got curious about how well this one was after all this time & see if I could finish this hobo murder simulator. Couldn't get back into it for very long as I stopped about half way through long time ago. But will definitely go after the sequel in gamefly to see how it's improved with some fresh eyes.

  • Fun little game to go through on the weekend but I think that they western town quests should have stopped a while back as it wasn't until after going through the bulk of it before remembering that there's the rest of the story mode in addition. Easy to run through & fun in the same way the lego games are.

  • After playing the beta mutliplayer then waiting until now for gamefly to send it, it was good to dive into the game as the suit mechanics make the game quite interesting though the game did drag a bit near the end where I just wound up trying to stealth my way past everything in the way. Quite fun single player though the power kick of a car often was disappointingly weak (where the car would get caught on something & only go about a foot or two). They picked out a great way of changing out the gun attachments that still should be used in other games. Figured by now the multiplayer wouldn't have changed much & a bit over balanced by now so just left that part of the game alone for now. Always fun in a Crytek game to play cat & mouse with the enemies though here if you max stealth it's easier to save ammo & just stealth kill (or face them & melee them a bunch) your way through sections of the game.

  • Voice acting is this is kinda bad compared to the show but the game story matches the cinematic style of the show well. Quite strange how the it seems that the forensic doctor is the only one that they could get from the show to provide a voice for this. Rather easy to run through & only got stuck a couple of times at trying to find a few items in a crime scene. Really don't understand the lack of any finesse controls for the gps/satellite minigame as it was the one thing that I had to repeat quite a lot while playing this on the 360. Only a rental for this game as it's quite short & not a lot after finishing it to want to go back & replay any of it.

  • Thought that the idea of this could be worth something but between fighting the camera in a number of occasions or getting stuck in the first person punching mode in the noir section (better still not finding them any fun) just made me not really want to keep going at seeing the rest of this. Might try it again later but for right now I think I'd be better off trying something else in the meantime.

  • Well took a while to get to this gem from Monolith & was well worth the delayed trip through it. Still at the end of the game had some issues with some of the combos/triggers not registering on some moves so not sure if it's a timing thing or just the controller being worn out & needing replacing. I do like how they listed out the collectibles on the level select though still a bit fuzzy on the fps mode, tried it out & died a bunch between reloads versus just punching people (though seen them pick up guns off the ground so didn't want to drop something that possibly had infinite ammo on it & me with no upgrades on stopping bullet damage). Highly recommended & once you get used to the odd controls for the combat, it's quite fun & messed up in a story you won't see anywhere else.

  • Fun though while the game made a few interesting improvements with the characters & gameplay, I had some issue with the fact that the songs didn't have any difficulty in the quest menus, only in quick play. Would have been interesting to see how it ended but couldn't get through the last couple of boss battle songs & had other games to pull me away. The high point in this was the 2112 album from Rush (still a favorite) though it would have been good to have all the songs on this album & not just the future distopia part. Echo is now my favorite character in the GH series (both pre & post transformation).

  • I really wanted to give this game a chance but between the fact of having to replay the game ? number of times for the 100% synchronization & constantly (as in previous AC games) fighting with the controls where I have the main character going one direction when I'm pointing the controls in another direction I just couldn't find it entertaining enough to want to keep going.

  • Just as the quick look demonstrates, this game is nothing but punching the accelerator & maybe avoiding the obstacles on the track. After getting through 1+ hours, I'm just not interested enough to want to see more of this. The crazy racing in the game is fun but for me, the constant attempts of flying off a jump then crashing into a tree, helicopter, blimp, rock, another rock, flying off the track completely, yes another rock, saw blade or yes another rock just stopped being fun for me to want to continue playing more.

  • While I loved the grindhouse themed cinematics & overall look along with the great sounding soundtrack, the part of the game being fun with the challenges between the story bits just couldn't keep me wanting to see more. Plenty of time fighting the controls or more so the camera.

  • Enjoyed what I played of it before getting stuck in a highly combat focused area of chasing down one criminal with a gun. Got far enough in the game to enjoy how they did the game but the face animation didn't quite grab me as the rest of the body still acted the same in many parts so they might have done better with pushing this down to 1-2 discs by taking that mocap footage & trying to get most of that done by animators instead. Historic LA was fun to see but the game itself was way too much of a text adventure of making it easy to just breeze through the cases but fun to see the branching paths. Fun game but it's one that's not for action game fans as there's not a ton of action in a bulk of the game.

  • Enjoyed the new magnet gun & when I restarted the new game+ I was going through just using the magnet gun which made the game more fun for me but still had to rebuild all of the structures after the fighting is done to be able to get to the next area. The cheats, while interesting, I thought were a little unnecessary or just stupid (like the unicorn gun thing). If the game was more open world like RF Guerrilla then there might have been more incentive to enjoy the open world with the cheats but a linear game just doesn't get that much more fun with those. Those reading this & trying the game out, get creative with the magnet gun & you can just mow through most of the enemies without problem.

  • Still hard to believe this is out, what's not hard to believe is how much fun it is not. Between the writing & the levels, it was tough to get through as much as I did before I just stopped playing (at some miniaturized level of navigating some rotating gears & dying constantly). Yes the level of fun the game provided wasn't enough for most people to get through this but had a feeling of that when it was more enjoyable in the game to play the air hockey or pinball than the actual fighting. I'd much rather see a 3 hour documentary on the behind the scenes/making of this than play through the game or even play with the idea of trying the multiplayer.

  • Had fun for a weekend with it though for some reason I found the game (after all this time) still extra broken in a few spots. With the full household set (designed after the Addams family) I decided early on to kill off one extra odd cousin by walling them up in a room. Unlike the quick look this person just refused to die as well as times when the food meter was bumped up keeping this person from death. Then partially through this time & managing the rest of the family, the person I sent to become a career criminal decided that he hated his boss then stopped going all together. That I could deal with but for some stupid reason, the person was stuck in the bed used for many days with no problems now wouldn't leave the bed & just sit there & complain even when just telling him to go get food. I got bored at one point then not only locked the guy in that 2nd room of the same house of the quick look but eventually merged the two small closed off rooms together, when the lazy guy finally stood up I was able to sell the bed & make the room even smaller but both people in this room refused to die. I was planning on bringing back the cousin with karma but too much time was sunk into getting here with little results & rest of the family slowly making progress to making enough to move but by then I just gave up on interest in the game.

  • So far, not really good & lots of issues so far with the camera/locking part of the game. Game didn't quite hook me enough to want to keep playing despite liking the design of the lead character. Can't say I'd recommend this one even the fans of RPG games.

  • Well when I enjoyed playing Guitar Hero, it was on the easy mode as I learned while trying to play electric guitar that my finger coordination isn't all that great, so with this one using the 4 frets to play along with a weird mash of elements (Rob Zombie, rock & yet the load screens have odd facts about the classical piece of music 'dance of the sugarplum fairies'). It's an average game but using the guitar makes it fun for some people but the game itself acts like the Typing of the Dead in the interface (but with the guitar controller) & some on-rails PS2 game in the looks of it. Better GH/Rock Band guitarists might enjoy it more than me.

  • Rather good movie based game similar to Kung Fu Panda & others where the game is actually decent plus seems to have more than just the movie involved. Can't recommend buying it but if you want a fun thing to dive in over a weekend it's worth it if you like adventure games. The best parts of the game from what I played were the moments controlling Snowy the dog, quite fun.

  • Surprised how much this might have inspired Fez. Quite good & better than the original Paper Mario game though I'm still amazed at how Mario seems startled when he hears that the Princess has been kidnapped (again). Still highly recommended & enjoyable for the franchise coming from someone who's not a big fan of the Mario series.

  • Thought it holds up better than the first one (which is the last one I played), however the gameplay is still dull to me in how it's structured. Seems like any room that doesn't have cover you hide behind has little value to it & any room with cover to hide behind means there's an upcoming fight. It's one of those games I'd recommend as it seemed really well done for the series, just not something for me.

  • Not bad for a lego game like the rest though the hub area is rather confusing on finding some rooms. Had to use a faq for a few spots that weren't part of the normal gameplay (ie. divination classroom) but there were collectibles to find. Might have taken a lot less time on this one if I wasn't going through the hub rooms after finishing the game to figure out what's left to unlock/find.

  • Really enjoyed this game as short as the main story was. The up to 4 player co-op Vendetta mode has some interesting characters to it & liked how these were put in the game as side characters with a few minor darkness powers/weapons going through the game on side missions overlapping parts of the story. After getting this from gamefly & sending it back I definitely will put this in the short list to buy again later just to play more of this gem. Only found that the caged lights that you couldn't turn off were a little annoying especially in the Vendetta mode but that's really the only complaint of the game I have. Some of the Vendetta characters might be a bit hard but found that the Scotsman with the minions/axe & the Voodoo master with the black hole power from the single player game to be quite useful in the Vendetta mode if playing by yourself.

  • Not bad for a sequel but rather quick & easy to get through. Took me a while longer to deal with the last few upgrades & hunting those enemies for those or the collectibles. Did enjoy the collectibles on the map where when you found one you could track down the rest easily. Not bad but after you go through it once there's not a lot left to go back to unless you are after the upgrade maxed achievements.

  • Great idea on this & was fun to play, will be adding this to the list of games to go back & get cheap on sale to play it more. Too many other games out right now to spend too much time on this but great game with some fun elements in it like winning a race by jumping into other cars to take out the competition instead of trying to win by racing.

  • Yes it's MW3, after playing tons of the previous ones, this one was okay to play for a while but for me it didn't hook me in to want to play more right now. Not a bad game but the version from gamefly I had some weird disc reading errors so there were plenty of times that a disc read error would pop up halfway through a mission & after a few times I just didn't want to put up with this to see the rest right now. Maybe later as I played enough of the multiplayer of previous ones & at a friend's house so just going in this for everything else outside the multiplayer.

  • Thought that the game is a lot better now with including voice work into these Lego games. Story & gameplay are solid in this with plenty of fun moments in the writing. That being said that after playing it so long after launch saw some bugs (like the old lady character select that brings up a purple box instead of the character from the free play select), trying to fly in the hub to find the camera hooked on some wall, getting stuck on some spots where the character got pinned under some bounding box to not be able to move & lack of design on things like pulling up the map (and not just having the map quickly go to the back button to pull up to briefly check to see if going the right direction). The hub world of Gotham is fun to see but finding out that the costume for Batman or Robin is lost when you change characters is one thing but having it lost also when getting in a vehicle made me not care much for trying to get all the gold bricks in the hub. Compounding this with the flight where I saw on multiple times where I just wanted to fly forward, up or down just a couple meters to get a gold brick only to go off in a random direction or have to hear the superman theme constantly made it rough to get around that hub.

  • Some of the look & dialogue in the game wasn't bad but after a while it definitely was showing the mark of trying too hard. The game might have been better if they expanded on the first level & just put that out on XBLA/PSN instead. The point of the game that just made me want to stop was at the last stage where one failed quick time event just equaled death & starting over pretty much at the start. Between this or the Nick Ticket that killed me, on the rising platform with the weight limit where instead of the Nick Ticket helping kill or just knock the enemies off the platform, the Nick Ticket was the one where she shakes the head for random coins/items. If I had the patience I would have gone back to play the first level again but the game just drags & find it hard to recommend anyone doing more than just renting it.

  • Loved the game & definitely going to get it later on, maybe around the holidays with some gift card (until now the holiday gift card idea was possibly going to new Skylanders game but in same thoughts as Jeff of it being catchy the first time but not so much for the 2nd). Anyway, great improvements on this over forza3 with how the car events worked with racing on a track but having tons of choices depending on the car for the career mode, the better UI/menus, and the top men of Top Gear UK in this made it work great in the series. Haven't tried Horizons yet but if there's a choice in the forza series, grab #4.

  • Only played the single player in this as I felt that the escalation wouldn't be all that great & laughing at the idea of a full multiplayer matches are still going on. Single player stuff wasn't bad & had some amusing achievements in it (ie. killing all but one of the prisoners when Megatron took over a location in the game), seems that after all this time there were some really blocky issues with it being in unreal (spots where textures had no normal/bump mapping to it so it was just a drab mess) or hitting invisible walls while flying in some levels. Worst though of all was the friendly AI, many times in a mission I'd have to revive someone in the mission while the friendly AI who was nearby would be just running around & shooting or during some more platformy bits of me having to jump clear of obstacles in a level only to see the 2 friendly AI on my team just standing there not having to it, just keep shooting, die then respawn. Overall the single player part isn't bad but if doing that I'd say just rent it, apart from the achievements there's no upgrade progression like Fall for Cybertron, fun but short to get through the story as it has some crazy moments in it.

  • Really enjoyed the haunted touristy mine & still believe that Konami does a good job with the atmosphere of this but aside from the side missions with lots of atmosphere/story & little combat, really didn't enjoy the combat enough to want to keep going. Also got stuck somewhere after getting through the hotel & didn't want to go through a faq retracing all my steps to find out where I was then figure out where to go next.

  • Good to see some of these I never picked up but after a taste here & there of these in this format, I'm glad I got this through gamefly as really no incentive for me to ever go back to play these capcom games anymore.

  • Went into this thinking that I didn't get far into it only to find out when it came out I played it about half way through. So just more of a reminder why they didn't put the personality in this into the new Most Wanted.

  • Enjoyed this after sinking in tons of hours into the new Deus Ex game but despite the magic, stealth & other fun to be had. The story is so fixed that apart from seeing a few sidequests going with the opposite choice, there's little else for me to find after playing through it once. Liked the world, hated how tepid & average the Outsider looked & hopefully they might do more with the franchise as there's a lot of possibilities.

  • Liked the game a lot, got a taste of it & just going to pick it up later to get in on the multiplayer fun & enjoying this one more (really thought that the act of shutting down most wanted rivals after the race in the open world is a great idea to keep the game lively). Does need some personality to the racers & in the game from the first Most Wanted.

  • Saw a ton of problems gameplay oriented in the first mission that pretty much made me want to turn it off. Sure the 3rd person action might seem like a good idea but when you are playing with a squad, having the squad moving between your character (in cover shooting at someone) & the camera is NEVER a good thing. Between this, the boss fight with the stupidly named g-virus mutant (either just standing there or hitting you near a wall so the camera really blocks your view more than helps) & just not having that much fun with this, thought it be better forgotten as another misstep of Capcom.
