I have a problem with these games where I become infatuated with trying to do everything as realistically as possible which means I end up doing every session at full time. I'm talking 90 minute practice sessions...full qualifying, and full races which means I ultimately get 3 races MAX into a season before I get burnt out and drop it until the next game in the series comes out and I get jazzed all over again to try it out.

I just cannot feel immersed in the simulated race weekend if I can sit down and hammer it out in one sitting. But then I've never gotten close to completing a season.

I also have trouble dialing the difficulty so that it feels right throughout practice sessions, qualifying, AND races. One of those either feels too hard, or too easy. Maybe this one feels better in that regard?

The minute Alan Watts' voice chimed in, I completely understood this game and was sold. SOLD. My favorite philosopher. That man blew my mind as a teenager and I continue to think about reality and the world differently because of him. I highly recommend his book The Way of Zen.

No idea where the angst comes from over the use of "Mechanical apartheid" and "Aug lives matter." Sci-Fi has always been a reflection of society. In many ways, the entire *point* of science fiction has been to view our culture through a different lense to provide an objective account. This game is nothing new. Perhaps people are viewing it cynically, as an attempt to "cash in" on strife, but that's not fair. Assuming the worst in people only exacerbates the problem.

Whether they used these events to tell a compelling story or provide a new perspective is irrelevant. As long as there was an effort, that's all that matters.

Not only that, but cyberpunk in particular has its roots in examining the political and socioeconomic ramifications of technology - corporate states, class warfare, the whole nine yards. I guess people are just surprised they're drawing inspiration from such recent events, you don't really see that kind of thing in AAA games.

It is kind of a bummer that it sounds like they didn't actually do anything interesting with the BLM backdrop, but it's genuinely nice that they at least tried. If you're one of those people who thinks games should be be taken seriously as a medium it seems crazy to then say that Deus Ex "isn't allowed" to tackle certain subject matter.

The "angst" seems to not be coming from the use of the terms, or themes, but the apparent shallowness of it. It's a fascinating idea, but it if it's used on only a surface level "big budget" "mass market" way, then it's missing the possibility of doing anything special with it. Much like David Cage is getting flak for talking about the human vs. synth theme for Detroit as if it was his original idea.

*Edit* I will definitely agree that they should be applauded for at least giving it a shot even if is a bit cliche for a cyberpunk storyline at this point though.

Is it too late to get into this game? It seems like there are some timed events that I missed out on, and that is keeping me from wanting to buy it.

There is so much goddamn content in this game already that you'd be crazy to think that you're missing out. The timed events have only occurred twice so far and they're essentially just one-off scenarios where the designers pick a random NPC to target. Honestly, while exciting to attempt these while they're "live," the meat of this game is already there. The "Feats" are even better and will be there waiting for you in each map whenever you decide to take the plunge and get it. These are unique challenges that ramp up in difficulty each time you complete them, adding modifiers and special situations for the next attempt. They're incredibly varied and play with areas and features of each level that you'd probably never encounter on the normal play through. Think of them as developer-made Mario Maker challenges within each map that get harder each time you complete them.

This game is fantastic. So much content in there already and it's not even finished yet.

This reads like a three-star review.

Me too. I was totally expecting a three star review after hearing Jeff talk about this last week. And now reading through the entire review, it still comes across as a three star review. But whatever. Numbers will be numbers and words will be words!

I have played this and reached about the 5th or so level into the tutorial where it tells you to start developing science. It was all fun and games until then. All of a sudden my brain melted when I had to not only think about HOW to construct the new contraptions, but somehow FIT it into my already haphazard mess of a "factory" that I stumbled making thus far. The factors of production went from A to B = C, to AB+C = CB and into D and CA + DC to E.

And then the bugs started attacking. I love it. But it requires a mental state of mind that I am not always in when I sit down to play a game.

Drew's awesomely horrendous punfu strikes again with "Haload." Defined as: A loading screen in Halo: Combat Evolved.
