@pweidman:  I don't know exactly what you're referring to either.  At this point, It seems to me to be as weak as it was in the first Modern Warfare.  Regular knife distance in MW2 (w/o Commando) was a solid and interesting mechanic.  It's just a different reflex.  When two players meet from mid range, the one with quicker reflexes and better accuracy wins.  Meeting someone in close quarters, some people have the knifing reflex, others don't.  It was just another aspect of the game's combat.  Now, it's basically useless again.  Hop on the hip-firing Famas train.

@crusader8463:  If only you hated Alan Wake, you would've hated all of my favorite games this year!  Seriously though, your taste is atrocious.

On topic,  Sacred 2 had decent controls for an Action RPG on a console.

It's good to hear that you've found some things to enjoy about the new title.  I feel that the skill set has changed to do well in the game.  MW2 was a matter of being the quickest on the trigger finger.  Can you put the first few bullets in the opponent before he can do the same to you?  Now, the focus is on following the enemies with your crosshairs.  Most guns in the game take at least a half a clip to put down an opponent (I've just unlocked the AK-47, and it seems to do the job a tad faster).  In addition to enemies taking more bullets, it seems that every gun has increased recoil.  Inexplicably, Treyarch chose to omit grips from the LMGs in this title.  There has been some backlash about quick-scoping, but I never saw what the big deal was there.  I put something like 15 days into MW2, and never remember that being a problem.  Perhaps the idea is that sniper rifles can't realistically work that way?  I agree about all of the perks that you listed, and I can't say that I miss them.  I also agree about the spawn system, especially Nuketown (what a nightmare), and the server issues.  However, shotguns are still around, and pretty deadly, but the range has been reduced.  The secondary classified pistol can be made fully automatic, and I have had some success with it, but I won't say it's a PP2000 or TMP.  One thing that you didn't mention are the killstreaks.  What are your thoughts there?

@Bib:  To your initial post.  You said you wish that first few hours of the initial game were unsettling, but that this mood didn't permeate the whole experience.  I agree entirely!  And although he's sort of a lovable goofball, I think that Barry had a lot to do with it.  In thinking back over my Alan Wake experience, I enjoyed the open-ended story and I didn't have any problems with the gameplay either.  However, I repeatedly got the feeling that Remedy didn't know what sort of mood they wanted to create.  In turn, the player doesn't really know how to feel about what is going on.  "Is this scary? Well, Barry seems to think it's funny.  He apparently thinks I'm (Alan) ridiculous."

@iam3green:  I agree, Wallflower.  Different things work for different people.  If you feel like you need a break, there's a good chance that you do.  Video games have been such a large part of many of our lives for so long, it's nice to find that you can function and enjoy your days without them.

@Godlyawesomeguy:  I'm glad you gave Sandler props for his dramatic chops.  He's got them.  Same with Jim Carrey, for the dude earlier in the thread.  Yea, his early stuff was goofy, but in serious roles he's amazing.

Also, George Clooney is crazy good in all kinds of stuff.

I'm going to hop on the Nic Cage train though.  Who...what...wher...for people who get that reference.  However, I'm a huge Luke Cage fan, so I can't knock him for his taste in comics.
