2011's 2003 Game Of The Year. Now, lets pray for the sequel!

 Beyond Good & Evil
 Beyond Good & Evil
It's shocking how well this game has aged. It's obviously a train wreck when it comes to the graphics but honestly - who cares? The characters, the story, the mechanics, the music and the general feel of almost everything is just... charming. I don't know if it's my general love for this game, as you may have seen - this is was my 2003 game of the year, but I really enjoy playing this game. I'll be back with something more about this when I'm done with it, again.

Please, to all of you out there - buy this game if you haven't played it. If you have, then buy it just to make Beyond Good & Evil 2 happen!

2011's 1997 Game Of The Year (Every years 1997 Game Of The Year)

 Harvest Moon
 Harvest Moon
It's that time of year again - looking back, dusting off the old machines and realising how different the world of gaming is today. I go back to play Harvest Moon SNES once a year just to see how it's holding up. I think that it's one of the greatest games ever created, if not the best. The same thing is coming to my mind every year - why must every single developer today focus on having everything in their games? Why not have three main things and make them perfect. Here's how Harvest Moon works - you arrive to a town, you have to talk with every person before your guide takes you to your home for three years - you farm. After that, everything is in your hands and at the end you'll see a short recap in form of stats about your years playing. It's simple as that. There are a couple of ways you can play the game - you'll either focus on your animals or your fruits/vegetables. You can do both but I find maxing one of those out more entertaining. You'll also have too choose if you want to "macro" or "micro". Are you gonna plant cheap stuff that are gonna give you little money in a short time or expensive stuff and make a lot of money in some extra days. It's simple as that and it works fine. And also, by being so simple and great, you can go back and play it over again and try new routes out.

I am kind of impressed by how great Harvest Moon is. Graphically it's kind of crazy because it looks great, kind of in the same way The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past looks great. And also - it's easy to play it for five minutes and also to play it for five hours. I really hope that either Sony or Nintendo will buy out this franchise and do something cool with it. Nintendo is obviously wanting the money out of it buy putting the same game out every single year. Anyway - check Harvest Moon out, it's a fantastic game.

BioWare teasing Thanes' comeback?

A Cure For Thane
A Cure For Thane
What's up gentlemen, and girls. So I am a fan of BioWare and Mass Effect 2 on Facebook and they latest post made me very happy and kind of curious. It's about Thane and a campaign to cure Thane, by fans. To get this out of the way - skip the entire "they just want to get the word out about the fans being awesome" because no, this has to be more. I have to say that Thane is without a doubt a character I would want to have by my side when I save the universe in Mass Effect. I mean, they did tease a cure for Thane at the end of Mass Effect 2 so by bringing him back as a major character in the conclusion it would kind of make up for great fan-service. Thane mentions a cure in one of his last lines. There have been some great responses on the Facebook page, one of them being that "Mass Effect 3 would be more emotional if Thane died". I agree, but here's what I hope for - players who went through the loyalty mission and also all the conversation with him should see Thane cured in Mass Effect 3. What do you think, would you like to see Thane in Mass Effect 3

Eight policeman rushed into a Kinect party "fight"

There have been a lot of Kinect stories around since the launch, but none of them have been quiet as fun as the one I saw in todays newspaper here in Sweden. So, here is the story. Five persons had a Kinect Party in an apartment. Two guys and three girls... AND A DOG!!! They played Kinect Sports (Of course!) the entire night and around midnight the police rushed the apartment. Why? The neighbours called the police while they played boxing and said that a man were hitting a women.

The article says when those eight (!!!) policeman rushed the apartment one of them asked - who's been beaten-up? Policewomen Åsa Andersson stated: "We heard how a group of people were hitting one girl, we came with several patrols". But hey, they had a blast and look at them - even the dog is happy!

Ever jumped into a game blindly to get the complete experience?

Mass Effect
Mass Effect
I really enjoyed Dragon Age: Origins. I enjoyed it so much that it ended up as my game of the year two years ago. You guys know the feeling of being so stoked about a game that you can't wait anymore? Well, of course you do. Anyway; that is not a feeling at all I have with Dragon Age II right around the corner. So this is actually very good because I know BioWare, I know that this is going to be a very, very good game.

I haven't seen anything from Dragon Age II other then the thumbnails here on the site and I kind of think that I am going to jump in blindly. I've only done this one time for real. I was looking forward to the original Mass Effect very much and I decided to not look at anything and man it turned out to be a very unique experience with one surprise after another. So with that said - I got my hands on the game like one month before it's release; it was my first ever review-copy.

So, I would love to hear from you guys if you ever do this? It's quiet expensive to buy games today and it kind of feels like a bad decision to this these days. And if you are into this, what games have you completely ignored until the release?

The second year of the future is go!

Dragon loves King unhealthily
Dragon loves King unhealthily
Remember how 2010 use to be the future in old movies? Well we're one year beyond that, son. As far I far can remember, my game to kick of the year off has been the FIFA series. Usually that game holds up for almost a month or two with an exception of this year and the last one. Last year it was of course Mass Effect 2 that broke my dear tradition with it's early January release and yes, it might actually be the same this year. I've already managed to broke my tradition though with a late 2010 title. The game is of course Raskulls. A game I've never heard or read anything about but after the quick look here on the site I decided to check it out.

The game is, weird. The story, or as the mega quest as they call it, is pretty funny with some great moments. It's everything but serious, which is kind of awesome. The gameplay though is nuts; some of the events can get really tight and when it happens this game almost gives me the same feeling that Pac-Man Championship Edition DX did. This game is awesome online as the quick look clearly shows. Check this madness out.

Worried about Mass Effect 3? Share it!

Thane was a fantastic character in Mass Effect 2 who you cared about. A lot! I ended up visiting his place after every mission to hear more about his illness and backgrund.

It's hard to not worry about Mass Effect 3. I don't think that it will in anyway be a bad game, it will surely turn out to be a masterpiece as its predecessors. I am going to share my worries though and I'd love to have a discussion about them in the comments. So there are two things worry about - the fact that (and please don't continue reading this if you are going to play Mass Effect 2 for the first time on the PlayStation 3) every body, including your Shepard, can die at the end of Mass Effect 2. Also, the fact that parts of the community don't even have the opportunity to play a game that sets up the entire conclusion. The combination of everyone dying in the end of the second game and the fact that parts of the first one will have major impact of the third is very weird.

I'd love to see Mass Effect 3 as a straight on continuation to Mass Effect 3 with the surviving characters from Mass Effect 2 as major characters. I cannot remember the stats that BioWare released about how many people died at the end of the second game but for a lot of people I know characters who they really loved died. A dream scenario for me personally would be if I could continue having Thane, Mordin, Garrus and Kasumi part of my team together with Ashley Williams, Liara and of course some new ones. Thanes illness can be cured, as he says in the game. I'd love to see that story wrapping up. Also, if there is one scientist I'd want to have with me while trying to save earth it would be Mordin.

This is of course possible for BioWare to create. But there are alot of man hours that need to put in here to have everyone happy at the end of Mass Effect 3. I wouldn't mind if the game came on four or more discs. At the same time, if they really want to make everyone happy, we could miss out on hours of story in our adventures. Again - these worries are very minor and I have a hard time thinking of BioWare skunking this up, but it's worth mentioning because let's face it - todays community teams are kind of big and someone might actually looking at this and getting inspirations for their works (even though Christina Normans latest Twitter update kind of confirmes that story game is more or less done).

What is your Mass Effect story and are there some things you are afraid to miss out on only because you were in a minority of people of that choice? Share it! And also, happy new year to all of you!

14th Annual Year In Review

Year In Review - The Best Games And Biggest Disappointments Of 2010

2010 was a great year for gaming. Not only did we get to play one of the most anticipated games of all time but also got sequels to games we fell in love with the past few years. While some games we’d really hoped for turned out to be bad others showed up as huge surprises. What strikes me most is the games that I ended up playing most this year. Mass Effect 2 I at the top of this list, of course, but the games to follow are games I’d never thought I would play as much as I did. I will keep my Year In Review short with only five categories.

 Alan Wake
Alan Wake

Best New IP

I know people who bought an Xbox 360 to play this game. In other words: the expectations were pretty darn high for this game. Unfortunately it did not live up to those expectations, but really those were impossible to reach. Alan Wake was, and is, a very good game that kind of died in its hype. I don’t think that it either sold as well as Microsoft wanted or got the expected reviews. It is a very good game though with entertaining gameplay and a great story. Alan is an interesting character to follow and there are a lot of memorable moments in the game that I’d go back to play again any day. I really hope that we will be able to follow one more of Alans stories in the coming year. The possibilities for this franchise are huge.

Runner up: Bayonetta, Darksiders

Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 2

Best Sequel

BioWare’s sequel to 2007’s Game Of The Year was to say at least as good as it’s prequel. The game engine wasn’t that hard to improve on and just the fact that I will be able to continue my story was almost enough for me. The big question was if BioWare could deliver a story as good as Mass Effect once again. We can argue back and forth but at the end of the day I think that we can all agree that Mass Effect 2 was probably the best game experience most of us had in a great while. I just can’t praise this game enough. Everything is well done, the environments and the variation of the planets keeps you searching for new side quests. While the scanning might be the worst part of this game is incredibly rewarding most of the times when you find a side quest. Mass Effect 2 is a fantastic and near perfect experience and a great sequel.Runner up: Super Mario Galaxy 2, StarCraft II: Wings Of Liberty

Halo: Reach
Halo: Reach

Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 2

Best Soundtrack

This category is probably the toughest. While it's almost impossible to choose a winner it's not so hard to choose the ones that is up against each other. It is between Mass Effect 2 and Halo: Reach.I will choose the song that played during the best experience in any game this year. It is when you are very near the end of Mass Effect 2. You've sent your crew on different assignments, some of them may or may not be dead and you are fighting for your - and your crews - life while Jack is almost dying because of her struggle to keep the biotic shield up. It's a very intense moment and the only thing I had in mind was to keep on going after my crew. The song is called "The Long Walk" and is by far the best musical piece of this year. The overall soundtrack in Mass Effect 2 and Halo: Reach is very similar in quality. You can listen to "The Long Walk" here!

Gran Turismo 5
Gran Turismo 5

Biggest Disappointment

I think that it’s fair to say that we live in a time when huge franchises costs as much to make that technical problems just shouldn’t be a problem when everything else is to say at least awesome. Gran Turismo 5 is by far the biggest disappointment of this year of two reasons. One being that the game is just too out of control. There is so much to do in this game that not even the game keeps track of everything and in the end you’re just wondering why you are playing this. The second reason is the one that makes me put this game on this list – all the empty promises and the fact that nothing is done perfectly. If this game were about one specific kind of racing I would be happy and enjoy it for what it was. Gran Turismo 5 wants to do everything and nothing is entertaining enough to keep you playing. Everything in this game is up and down. Each second you are playing the most beautiful game but seconds later it looks very, very bad.

Runner up: Heavy Rain, Fallout: New Vegas

Game Of The Year Nominees

 Rock Band 3
Rock Band 3

Rock Band 3

It would be foolish to say that the plastic instrument genre is not dying. I’d like to say that Harmonix put a bullet in the genre that they created by releasing Rock Band 3. The game is not only a fantastic tool to become a musician or even to just have your daily guitar/drum/keyboard practice but also a great entertaining solo experience. I found the story of Rock Band 3 as the most perfect and well-done story in any music game. The fact that you see your band doing daily stuff like visiting the rehearsal room, signing, tuning the guitar or just hanging out creates a great and steady ground for the player to build up their own personal story. I enjoyed Rock Band 3 when I played it alone and when I took my band online to compete with others I enjoyed it just as much, this is the perfect music game and without a doubt one of this years best games.

 Red Dead Redemption
Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption

I don’t know if I am simply just to weak for Red Dead Redemption or if I really love this game from the bottom of my heart. I enjoyed the sunrises and the sunsets in this game. I remember shooting birds in the sunrise just to see their shadows while they were falling to the ground. The fact that I didn’t finish this game for couple of months I think is quiet telling for how good it is. Believe me, I didn’t enjoy Mexico either, but when I was done and went back to the states again the game grew on me. I love every side quest, every wanted mission, every city everything. I love the fact that Rockstar Games created an empty land and created a great, memorable and believable scenario around it.

Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect 2

Oh Mass Effect 2, I don’t even know where to start. It’s hard to talk about what makes this game as good as it is without spoiling a bunch of stuff. My Shepard has friends in the galaxy and every time I meet a friend to my Shepard I sit there, going through the entire dialog tree to hear what he or she has say. Every time I find a new planet I sit there to read about its story. Every time I find a new race I read everything about them. Every time I play this game I just can’t help to read a line or two from the books and while that might be unfair in this discussion it’s just a sign of how good this fiction is.

Civilization 5
Civilization 5

Civilization 5

Let’s face it – Firaxis created a hardcore game that everybody could enjoy, that alone is an accomplishment that makes this game obvious for this list. They did create a game, which I played so much that I was wondering if I was had an addiction. A scenario can take up to ten hours and while it might seem horrible to loose your entire progress and start over again you are always looking forward to create an even better civilization. At the end of a scenario you’re kind of tired of your places and want to restart anyway. Civilization 5 is a very good game.

 FIFA Soccer 11
FIFA Soccer 11

FIFA Soccer 11

I never thought that Electronic Arts would ever make it on any game of the year list with any sports franchise. FIFA Soccer 11 is by no means a perfect game. The weird thing is that the parts that are missing from this were all in the previous FIFA Soccer game. With that said – this game will keep you, as a soccer fan, playing for months and months. It is very hard to describe why this game is a candidate for the 2010's Game Of The Year. I enjoyed the Career Mode and it really made feel like I created a story with my virtual pro.

2010's GAME OF THE YEAR

Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 2

As much as I loved and enjoyed Red Dead Redemption it never even came close to what I felt the first time I was playing Mass Effect 2. I really think that it is fair to say that Mass Effect 2 is one of the best games of all time. It is your story and while some might argue with the fact that you are not really making as great decisions as BioWare makes it sound I totally argue with the fact that you are making decisions that will make your story more and more unique the more you get into it. Mass Effect 2 has a fantastic atmospheric soundtrack that really only one game could compete with this year. The game does everything it offers in a near perfect way and shares tons of memorable moments. Mass Effect 2 is about a suicide mission and at the end of the game you really feel the fact that the crews lives is in your hands. The cast of amazing characters, the wonderful music, the stunning visuals, all the small details and some of the teases for the upcoming conclusion makes this my game of the year. While it had no impact on my choice of this as the game of the year; the fact that this story will continue before we even see the third part is this game in form of downloadable content I think that BioWare puts the bar high for next years titles. And by the way, I also want to give a shout out to Mordin and Thane who turned out to be my favourite characters of thise year.

My GOTY's 1997 - 2010

Game Of The Year (1997 - to date)

From the year of farming to the year of space traveling with every thing from spoon collecting to killing the devil in between. This is: My games of the years past!

1. Mass Effect 2

2010: Imagine a game where everything works as close to perfect as it is possible. Imagine that game having a fantastic story with awesome characters. That game is Mass Effect 2.

2. Dragon Age: Origins

2009: Another great living world with a lot of great characters and one hell of a story from BioWare. The only thing that was different this time was the fact that the only game that was almost as good as Dragon Age: Origins was Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

3. Grand Theft Auto IV

2008: The amount of detail, the fantastic story, the crazy characters and finally the mature Grand Theft Auto that I've been waiting for.

4. Mass Effect

2007: One of the greatest games ever by today’s greatest game studio. The graphics were busted and the game play sucked every now and then. But man... The universe that BioWare created was breath taking. And of course; hearing Wrex say "Shepard" could save the worse day!

5. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

2006: The sunrise in Anvil, all the spoons that I collected, my fantastic runs from the cave to Chejdinhal and... My fantastic run that took 50 minutes. It took a long, long while for me to drop this game. And when I did, it wasn't because of tiredness; it was because of one hell of a crack in the disk.

6. Jade Empire

2005: Oh Jade Empire... A game with fantastic story, even more fantastic music and - I said it before and I'll say it again - the most fun I had playing video games.

7. Halo 2

2004: The story was a huge disappointment, but this game changed it all. Literally

8. Beyond Good & Evil

2003: Oh. My. God. This game is not a game... This is a interactive masterpiece that deserves to be praised in all eternity. Beyond Good And Evil had great characters, awesome gameplay and also one of the most fun with any video game ever.

9. Mafia

2002: While the 3D debut of the Grand Theft Auto franchise pretty much did that I lost all hope for this game it turned out to be one of my favorite games of all time. Awesome story and one hell of a cast made this a very easy choice, really.

10. Grand Theft Auto III

2001: Two words: LIBERTY CITY!

11. Diablo II

2000: Not much to say here, Diablo II is probably the best game from Blizzard to date, together with the original Diablo. Fantastic music, a great story, even greater world and fun classes to play around with made this game one hell of an experience.

12. Final Fantasy VIII

1999: Well, if Ocarina of Time had me stucked for way too long then Final Fantasy VIII had me stucked for way too long times three. A great story combined with great characters and at the time breath taking graphics was almost enough. The fact that I ended up grinding the game for months basically put it on the top of 1999.

13. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

1998: Not the best Legend of Zelda games, but not that far of. Ocarina of Time is a very good game that had me hooked in front of the TV way to long.

14. Harvest Moon

1997: Harvest Moon for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System is not only the best game of 1997 but also the best game... pretty much ever! Why? Fantastic graphics, one hell of a charming world and game time worth everything!

Just finished Red Dead Redemption, started Undead Nightmare.

I didn't finish Red Dead Redemption until now, even though I bought it on the day it was released. I simply loved it to much and didn't want it to end. Now, with some downloadable content to spend my time with after the main story, I decided to finish the game and see that ending that got everybody talking. Now I will not spoil that ending so don't worry. Altough a have to say that I am with those who love that ending.

I played about three hours of Undead Nightmare and oh my God! It is a very, very good downloadable content with alot of wied and very funny cutscenes. For the first time ever in a Rockstar game - and I am not kidding - I'd just ran around and killed zombies. I never realized until now that those weapons actually are pretty darn fun to play around with. I am really looking forward to see what Undead Nightmare has to offer but once again - it might take time. But I am going to call it right now -

Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare is the best zombie game. Period.

So with Red Dead Redemption finished I know what my game of the year is. It is not Red Dead Redemption. It is one of my favourite games of all time actually, but this year a game that went straight to my top five list. I really hope that everyone picks Red Dead Redemption up becuase it is a fantastic game. Going back into the fantastic places one again felt almost as impressive as the first time I saw them. Also, the characters are amazing!

Anyway, I'll probably post a ton reasons why I did choose... Mass Effect 2, of course, as my Game Of The Year in a couple of days!

The best zombie game ever? Well if it continues this way then yes, by far!
