Games I Have Fond Memories Of

Welcome to my childhood. (age ~14 and lower)

This is a really really weird combination of titles.

List items

  • I remember playing this (or an earlier version of it) at a relative's house when we stayed over which led to picking this up. I actually had a lot of fun with it at the time. I recall always picking Mike Piazza as my catcher which led to me rooting for the Mets for some amount of time.

  • I managed to convince my sister to play this with me, and we played the game co-op up to the final boss, who we couldn't beat. This game sticks out to me as the only game I played with my sister for any notable length of time.

  • "I may be able to help, ja!"

  • This game sticks out in my memory for two main reasons: One, a local kids TV channel allowed people to call in and play the run away from boulder level using their phone as a controller, and gave them (more) prizes if they survived. This blew my mind. Secondly, this game is the reason I got a PS1.

  • I remember really liking the start of this game, and I played it many many times - just the start, as in around the second area I got stuck and didn't know what to do, and then I forgot the name of this game. I stumbled upon it a few years ago and I've wanted to replay it ever since.

  • I think the graphics and animations were what made me play this so much, but as a game I recall it being pretty frustrating.

  • This game was so utterly crazy that it's hard to forget - I remember getting really far into it. There are a lot of cool things about Earthworm Jim as a game, and as a character.

  • This game is forever seared into my memory due to an awkward moment related to it as a kid. Also I quite liked it as a game as well.

  • I started playing this at a summer camp at some point. It's kind of a weird platformer in that the level design wasn't very good, but it still had a lot of charm, and I remember playing the time trial levels over and over.

  • I got this game as a present, and I'm glad I did - I'd likely have never picked it up otherwise. The thing I liked about it the most was probably the combat system, oddly enough. The Disney-ness was mostly just goofy (not the character). I remember getting horribly stuck in Hollow Bastion.

Also one of the few games in which I find the music memorable.

  • I played a lot of Kirby's Adventure back in the day - I actually managed to master all the mini games, and how to perfectly make the end-of-level bonus jump, which took a long while. I even completed the game! UFO Kirby forever and ever.

Years after playing this game and knowing a bit more about technology, I was surprised to discover this was a NES game - this is an absolutely fantastic looking game.

  • I've played a bunch of the original Mega Mans, but when I think of Mega Man games, I tend to think about Gravity Man. I think this is the Mega Man game that I played the most of. Anyway, if Mega Man 9's difficulty is at all similar to Mega Man 2-6, I think I was way better at games then, which is nice in a depressing way.

  • I can't think of an old anecdote about this game, so here's a new one: When creating this list, I opened the Gold/Silver wiki page and quickly found an error in the page. And that was the story of how I earned my first wiki points in Giant Bomb. Truly, history in the making.

  • I still remember my first time playing Red - I noticed early on that Ember was my Charmander's best attack, and then didn't really figure out the idea of elemental advantages - I ended up using Ember so much even when it wasn't good that I leveled him to evolve into a Charizard before the S. S. Anne. It was there that I discovered Slash was a pretty good move too, as I had ran out of PP for Ember.

  • I remember that the monstar based off of Muggsy Bogues was probably the best player in this game thanks to the sheer counter attack speed he allowed, but this game also had a lot of secret shots that were (at least for me then), incredibly difficult to pull off. Still probably the basketball game I played the most of, all in all. Not sure what to make of that...

  • I played a crazy amount of this game as a kid - I ended up finding every single collectible in the game. I think this is the best skateboarding game of all time, too.

  • I was an Elise player, and played and completed every event with her - in the end, the level disparity was so large that when playing multiplayer, playing Elise and just moving straight forward would frequently beat controlled level 1 characters. Oh videogames.

  • Oddly enough, this was the first Zelda game I ever played. I liked it quite a bit, but unfortunately it's focus on puzzles made me give up on it as a kid.
