Those are experience points, aren't they? I'm talking about the skill rating that gets logged in your stats. Mine hovers between 150 and 200, with no apparent link to how well I'm playing. If anything, it seems to be linked to how often I play :P
I don't have any problems with the helicopters in Atacama Desert. The map is balanced just fine with the inclusion of the AA guns.
As for planes instead of helicopters, BF2 had jets on a couple of the bigger maps. They flew slower and turned tighter than was realistic, but they worked out pretty well. The maps on BC2 are smaller though, so the decision to leave them out is understandable.
The helicopter action in Operation Flashpoint was pretty good (I assume the same is true for the subsequent games). It was a little tricky to get the hang of, but very gratifying once you got going. Not exactly a sim, but definitely not arcadey.
As for the Battlefield games, I loved the choppers in BF2, but felt that they've been dumbed down a bit ever since. That might be because I switched to consoles after BF2, so maybe it was one of the concessions they made to make it more accessible and console-friendly.
@MjHealy: Yeah, but there's always a second of confusion when you get revived - you're never really sure which direction you're pointing. Also, I don't want my K/D ratio tanked just so someone can pick up a couple of points for a silly revive.
