As someone who has played Portal but haven't got around to Portal 2, I think I walked into some spoilers at the end of this video. :(

I'm an old man of 33 and haven't played a MP shooter seriously since TF2 was new. I really want to play this, but I'm looking at this QL, thinking that if this is how viciously skilled PS4 players are, PC (where I want to play it) is going to be 10 times worse. It seems like I'd be paying $60 to experience little more than spending 30 seconds running somewhere just to get killed before doing anything.

None of these players are "viciously skilled". Vinny just isn't playing very well. Most of the QL is spent with Vinny staring directly at rocks instead of looking around and running out into the open when there are giant-ass AT-ATs wandering around. He had 1 kill and 23 deaths.

FPS players aren't as skilled as people would have you believe. The declining reaction time is not that big of a deal - Jeff handles himself perfectly well when playing FPS games on the site.

Regardless of Vinny's tactics, online FPS's tend to be miserable experiences for dudes our age. I'm 34 and didn't dip my toe into any FPS until the PS2 era. My depth perception is terrible and managing two analog sticks in real time is still fairly awkward after years of trying. I can stumble through single player in most FPS's but put me against another human who is facing me and tell us to have a shootout? I fail every time. And I mean EVERY TIME.

My go at the PC beta of Battlefront this morning ended with 2 kills and 10 deaths. And that's the best ratio I've ever gotten in a multiplayer beta in my life. I only got those two kills because I ended up right behind two storm troopers who didn't notice me. Beyond that, I crouched, hugged walls, did everything I could to lessen the disadvantage of my shitty reflexes. I got the first shots off at plenty of folks this way, but they always got the last. Every time, I'd wing them, they'd whip around, bunny hop, and headshot me while my follow-up shots sprinkle uselessly around them. Some of us are just can't point at moving targets as efficiently as others so multiplayer shooters just become exercises in masochism.

This might kick off a miniature flame war, but I have to say that what story there is in MGSV is so much better directed and performed than in any previous entry. There is such nuance and intricate staging on display in the Paz scene (even though it involves removing a vagina bomb). Sutherland performs his few lines with world-weary gravity, while this scene with David Hayter would probably devolve into him growling "Amnesia??" and "Peace Day??" etc. every ten seconds. And Troy Baker as Ocelot expresses such concern and empathy towards Paz's condition, showing much more range than previous games where Ocelot rasps every line as an anime villain (except Snake Eater where instead he's a constantly snotty anime teen).

I really do applaud the maturation of Kojima and his cutscene team in this installment. "More story" does not equal "better story." It's much more cinematic to show you things, suggest things, and allow some things to be ambiguous... than to drown you in exposition.
