Oh man, that two minute motorcycle rush is unforgiving. I think it took me about five tries when I played this fifteen years ago.
Most frustrating bit of the game for me. On the other hand I enjoyed the brawling. It's going to be interesting to see how Vinny coped with the 70 dude fight.
I love CCR, but Dan looping "Fortunate Son" for twenty minutes while dropping bombs on a strip club stage... He's really the Heath Ledger Joker, isn't he? A pure agent of chaos.
The "wait til tomorrow" scam totally happened to me fifteen years ago, and I DID happily play Space Harrier for the day, but I got a lot of entertainment out of Vinny and Dan's approach to this. Shenmue is a game about freedom, and Kermit the Frog jam session is as valid a gameplay choice as any!!!
@mistersims: As someone who played through Shenmue 1 and 2 on Dreamcast (and who quite liked Shenmue 2) the phrase "core mechanics" applied to Shenmue gave me a chuckle. They didn't light the fucking candles efficiently enough for you? They didn't zoom in on blocky objects with enough artistry and panache? lol
There were moments though. Issues 8, 9, and 10 written by Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, and Dave Sim were some of the best experiments in the superhero medium, paired with Todd's excellent art.
Way later at issue 150 David Hine did a run as writer and it actually felt like a smart, mysterious Vertigo book for a while. His "Armageddon" storyline actually resolves all the Heaven vs. Hell malarkey in a satisfying way and the book should have ended there.
