My Most Anticipated Games of 2011
By gamer_152 22 Comments
2010 was an amazing year for video games and in recent times the games industry has produced a larger quantity of high quality games than ever, however 2011 looks to bring even more great games. In no particular order here at the top three games I’m most looking forward to in the coming year.
Batman: Arkham City

This is probably the game on this list I’m most sceptical about as there’s not a whole lot of information about it out there, however I can’t help but be hyped for the sequel to one of my favourite 2009 games. Arkham Asylum was a fantastic game for Batman fans and players of action-adventure titles alike. Rocksteady came out of nowhere and dropped a really high quality experience into our midst, proving that they know how to make games and make them well. Another chance to be plunged back into the gritty, badass interpretation of Batman Rocksteady created, and another chance to utilise the high tech gadgets and fluid combat system of Arkham Asylum is a very exciting prospect to me.
Mass Effect 3
I’ve already confessed my undying love for Mass Effect 2 but it’s still amazing how effectively that game managed to create a sense of anticipation for Mass Effect 3. There have been many games over the past decade or so that have tried to pull players into a sense of excitement for their sequels with cliffhangers that were intended to be enticing and gripping, but felt tacked-on and lacklustre. Mass Effect 2 effectively managed to deliver a glorious sense of triumph to its own conclusion while setting up its sequel as something players wanted in their hands the seconds the credits rolled.
With all the ways it was possible for the story to branch through the first two games Bioware have a hell of a job accounting for all of them in Mass Effect 3, but I’m adamant they’ll deliver a game with the kind of fantastic characters, story, and universe we saw in Mass Effect 1 and 2.
Portal 2

Much like Mass Effect 2, Portal left players clamouring for more. Every aspect of Portal was beautifully made and when Portal 2 was announced I thought an opportunity to return to the Aperture Science facility, wield the Portal Gun again, and listen to more of the gibberish spouted by the hilarious but warped GLaDOS, seemed fantastic, although I did wonder how fresh Valve would be able to keep the experience.
I once again expected great things from Valve and still underestimated them. They’re not only introducing some ingenious new gameplay mechanics, but they’re giving us more Jonathon Coulton, a selection of even better-looking environments, and much more of all the things that made the first game brilliant. I’m sure Portal 2 will be well worth the delay and I can’t wait to take a hold of the ASHPD again and start blasting holes in the fabric of space.
Duder, It’s Over
I hope you’re all looking forward to the upcoming games this year, but from what I’ve seen I already know that most of you are. Here’s hoping for another fantastic year, you’re doing yourself proud video games industry. Good luck, have FPS.
