The additional RAM should help the overall feel of the console. The PS3 had 512 MB (256 MB for games and 256 MB OS) of RAM which is very limiting for the progression of games. The unified memory pool on the PS4 will allow developers to allocate that to wherever the game will most benefit.
@evilnights: The hard drive is probably the cheapest thing you can possibly get. Considering that they probably get price reductions from wholesale, they'd only be saving a small fraction of that $100.
This highlights my problems with the politically correct de facto laws in place in our post-modern society. If I want to say the n-word or call someone a f--, I may be an asshole, or I may be joking depending on the context, or talking about the actual use of the word. But it is no one else's right to tell me that because they're offended I cannot say the word. This is a direct infringement upon freedom of expression that even the Giant Bomb forums keeps up to a Draconian T. If you're so offended by certain words it is you who has the problem, not everyone who chooses to use the word for whatever reasons. I used to get picked on at school for being chubby, it doesn't give me the right to ban anyone from using the word fat because it offends me and "my people."
But we're all far too childish to come to grips with this, I know. I'm sure we'll continue on for the foreseeable future having nanny politicians, lobbies and grovelling, pandering corporations telling us what is offensive. This is precisely why words like "racist," "terrorist" and "left/right-wing" are such powerful, but comparatively meaningless terms.
While I agree with you, an Internet forum does not have the same speech freedoms in place that the Constitution provides, as freedom of speech refers to government oppression of speech and not necessarily what rules are enforced on forums. Giant Bomb is a private entity and therefore can dictate what you are allowed to discuss and ban you if you do not comply with those rules.
That seems absolutely ridiculous. Using "N-word" and "n-----" is fine, but using the actual word isn't? In the context of discussing the word itself and not actually using it as a slur or as a way of demeaning a person or group of people, why should it not be alright to use the word you're talking about? I read the rules of the forum, and the intent, at least to me, seemed to be the prevention of using slurs against other people or with offensive intent, but they did preface that section with "not limited to". I suppose the mods around here have never been especially interested in that "common sense" attitude, in any case.
Trust me, I've seen threads closed because people were discussing racial slurs, and typing them in their entirety, but not using them to attack others.
It really is against the rules of the forum for any reason.
His point is that banning a word in and of itself is silly. Giant Bomb is not a place for grade school children. As adults, moderators should be able to look at the context of a conversation and determine whether or not ill intent was present. Zero-tolerance policies are for people who don't want actually think about their decisions — use common sense.
@demoskinos: Well, it depends on the full context of the argument. We don't know the full conversation. Even if it was in poor taste, going to jail for even one day in this instance is too long as there was no indication that his comment was an actual threat.
