Via GameSpot:

A Texas teenager has been jailed since March 27 over comments he made on Facebook after playing a League of Legends match. In February, an argument 18-year-old Justin Carter had with another League of Legends player spilled onto Facebook, where Carter made a comment referencing a school shooting.

“Someone had said something to the effect of 'Oh you're insane, you're crazy, you're messed up in the head,’" his father Jack Carter told Texas news station KVUE. "To which he replied 'Oh yeah, I'm real messed up in the head, I'm going to go shoot up a school full of kids and eat their still, beating hearts,’ and the next two lines were lol and JK."

Jack Carter said a woman from Canada saw the posting, did a Google search for his addresses and when she noticed he lived near a school, called the police. Justin Carter was later arrested and charged with making a terrorist threat.

Justin Carter faces eight years in prison, his father said, arguing that his son's comments were sarcastic. “These people are serious. They really want my son to go away to jail for a sarcastic comment that he made," Jack Carter said.

Justin Carter's comments came just months after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, where 20 children and six adults were killed. Jack Carter said his son did not pay much attention to current events.

“Justin was the kind of kid who didn't read the newspaper. He didn't watch television. He wasn't aware of current events. These kids, they don't realize what they're doing. They don't understand the implications," Jack Carter said. "They don't understand public space."

Family and friends have launched an online petition asking for Justin Carter's release and a rollback of certain anti-terrorism laws and investigatory practices.

Sarcasm is illegal now? This shit is not okay!

@spaceinsomniac: It's not even necessarily the word itself that's the issue. It's the baggage that comes with the term that makes people so upset. As George Carlin would say, context means everything. In this particular case, Paula Deen clearly was not trying to be witty; she was being unabashedly hateful hence the issue with the word.

I kind of feel bad for her to be honest. I don't condone what she said, but this is getting ridiculous. I can understand losing her job with Food Network but losing her sponsorship deals with 5 different places and then losing her cookbook deal? Give me a fucking break.

I'd take people saying the N-word more seriously if rappers didn't say it every 20 seconds in their songs.

It really should not be that surprising. I doubt that many people want to be associated with such an overtly racist individual. It would be bad for business.

I haven't had a problem with the player so far, but there does appear to be an issue with the HTML5 version. It's extremely slow. I seem to have pretty good results with the Flash version ironically.

Meh, I'll probably get one of the new consoles after a couple of years but definitely not right away. I have a PC for many of my needs.

@artemesia: To each their own I guess. From what I've seen of her show, she seems like a decent human being and is apparently good at what she does for her to have her own show.

@mercutio123: I suppose it's pretty easy to navigate once you've been exposed to it a bit, but for a more casual, non--tech individual, the PS3 interface is kind of disjointed. If you don't realize that you have to scroll over to a certain category before scrolling up or down, it can be confusing.

I think it is much more intuitive to have a screen with multiple boxes that rotates through a few thumbnails to give the user an idea of what they need to click on. The new PS4 interface is far superior than what we are currently used to on PS3.

I don't see why they would abandon their current method with Xbox. Microsoft knows that Xbox serves a different market segment than their operating system — a much wider audience.

All they really have to do is put some fluffy buzzwords behind the idea that paying for a premium service results in better products and a large part of the target base will adjust to it. As long as sales figures aren't majorly affected by the paywall, it will remain for years to come.
