As a big fan of Tolkien, I'm glad there are still people out there trying to crack the LOTR video game code, but I didn't think that Shadow of Mordor was an entirely successful attempt. XP bars and combo multipliers don't really fit the setting that well, which made all the Lord of the Rings stuff feel incidental. But, thinking about it, I don't really know what template would make for a good Lord of the Rings game. I really hope someone figures it out though. That would be swell.

Anyways, I'm interested to see what changes they've made for the sequel.

I hold a particular disdain towards Borderlands, but I have played over 100 hours of 1 and 2 (never played the Pre-Sequel). The reason why I've played that much Borderlands is because they were the games that my friends were playing at the time, so I had the choice of playing with them, or being a lonely fella in the online world for a little while. Come to think of it, I had the same experience with Terraria as well. That's definitely a game I played a lot more of than I would have otherwise. I really don't like that game.

Final Fantasy VII, the Gothic series, Deus Ex, Metal Gear Solid 2, pixel art. Also, my feelings on Zelda games post Ocarina of Time have ranged from bored indifference (Wind Waker) to absolute disdain (Twilight Princess).

If I enjoy an open world game it's usually not the open world part of it that makes me enjoy it. For example, I loved GTA V, but after the first couple hours I pretty much stopped driving myself around and used the cab system because the things I cared about in that game were the characters and the story. I honestly would have enjoyed that game a lot more if I could have been loaded into every mission from a menu.

The only developer that makes open world games where the open world is a selling point for me is Bethesda. Yes, their games are janky as hell. Yes, the individual stories in their games aren't particularly special. But no other developer has created a feeling of real exploration and getting lost in a different world like Bethesda has for me. Driving between icons on a map in GTA or Watch_Dogs just doesn't create the same sense of place that I get from wandering around in a Bethesda world where stuff to do pops up around me through natural exploration.

I think Bioware have had derpy looking characters since KOTOR. It was especially disappointing in Inquisition because all of the main characters had that awesome looking tarot card artwork that the actual in-game characters just couldn't live up to.

"Cullen looks like a badass dude!"
"Erm... maybe not."

I have this game on PC, so I can't speak to the technical quality of the PS4 version. But the game itself, I would describe it as a low budget Dragon Age Origins (I think even the same game director from Origins worked on it. It has real-time-with-pause combat and there's a lot of dialogue, but the writing is very plain. There's also a good amount of color coded loot if you're into that sort of thing. I didn't finish the main campaign, but I've heard it's about 20 to 40 hours long depending on how many quests you do.

It's not a great game, but 12 bucks seems about right for it if you like Dragon Age Origins and you don't mind a very B-tier feel.

I'm currently playing the starter edition of World of Warcraft. Every time I've tried to play WoW there is always something off putting about the way it looks and plays, but I'm not really getting that feeling anymore. I don't know what changed, but I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

I'll probably plop down 20 bucks to get the full game at some point and see how far into it I can get.
