Persona 5 is almost definitely coming to Switch, right? Hopefully we get P4 Golden and some form of P3 at some point, too.

I Just Bought a Vita

This may have been a mistake, but after wanting to play Persona 4 Golden for so long, my resolve finally broke and I purchased a Playstation Vita on Amazon. I definitely didn't have the money for it, only making the purchase thanks to my tax return. That's not to say it was really all that expensive. I got it used, and also bought with a memory card (in case the used one does not come with it) and the game for 200 bucks total.

This is old news, but holy shit are those memory cards overpriced. I bought a 4 gigabyte one for 25 fucking dollars. And double the space was double the price. I figured that for now, I just needed to be able to save my game, so 4 gigs would have to do. Hopefully the used one comes with a memory card of its own, since the listing didn't say it didn't come with one. If that's the case, I'll be able to download all the Vita games I bought on accident while looking for stuff to buy on PS3 over the years. That store is really bad at separating Vita stuff from the rest of it. Sigh.

I made the mistake of buying a few more games for it, which is a mistake because I shouldn't have blown so much money on this thing, but also because the games I bought are long titles that will eat up almost as many hours as Persona will. I bought a copy of Tales of Hearts R, being a fan of the series and never having the ability to play that one. Yeah, a second long-ass JRPG to murder my time with.

The other game I bought was the newly released Steins;Gate 0, a sequel of sorts to the original visual novel that I adore. It was on sale on amazon for 25$, and I knew I'd want to play it eventually, so I went ahead and did that deed, too. For those of you who don't know, Steins;Gate is one of the greatest visual novels ever released (in my opinion, though I'm not alone in that belief) which also received a critically acclaimed and successful anime adaptation, too. It's a truly brilliant story, themed around consequences, both for your actions, and for trying to fix your mistakes. I have not seen the anime, so I don't know how closely it follows the story of the visual novel, but if you don't have 30+ hours to spend on a (fucking excellent) story, that might be the way to experience it.

That was a digression, but an important one, I think. Anyway. I bought a Vita and it was probably a bad decision but I'm really looking forward to it anyway. That's all!

I've had exaclty your idea for exacly the same reason.

How's it going so far? Any regrets? And on the other side of things, any other good npc's on the vita to look out for? I'm a sucker for a good story.

@songhunter: I only regret now because, as it goes, a sudden and pressing expense came up a couple days ago that has left me in the same state I was before getting my return -_-

On the other hand, P4G is amazing. They added so much to it from the original, and cleaned up all the parts that were slogging the original down, like having to roll the die for your Personas' abilities when fusing.

Tales of Hearts R has actually been pretty fun. The characters and story as cliche and corny, but it's the kind of corny I can get behind. The plot is literally going into people's hearts to recover a girls lost emotions. That's so corny that I'm pretty sure GFW Radio did a bit about a fake game with that concept. That said, it's really charming.

I haven't dug into Steins;Gate 0 yet because I know I'm gonna want to sit and just play that nonstop until it's done.

Other than that, I've been playing a Hyperdimension Neptunia game, and it's bad, because they all are, but it's something I can play when I'm not in the mood to actually care about what I'm doing.

And then Rogue Legacy and Spelunky; the Vita is a great platform for roguelikes, as many before me have said.

Oh, also, it totally didn't come with a memory card, so it's a good thing I bought one. I don't think I would've been able to play anything without it.

@generic_username: Thanks for all that info, man. I pass by a couple of used videgame stores on my way to work and every time I see a Vita I want to find my way back to the meat dimension. Golden style :p

About the Tales of the Heart, I think I dropped out of the Tales series right after Abyss, but I used to find them quite charming in their corniness so I think I might give it a go too. Kind of like the Atelier series. I used to enjoy those back in the PS2 days and I hear there's a couple on vita. Dunno if they're any good, but if you like them Tales you might wanna check those out.

And I did not know about Steins Gate 0's existance. Big fan of both the anime and the visual novel, not a bad watch if you've got some time to spare (about 13 episodes and a movie, I think). Glad to hear they're following on that story, I though the original was a brilliant way of tackling an overused (and hardly well) subject in a very interesting fashion. Much better than many big budget movies and tv shows on the same subject methinks.

Hum.... Now I'm starting to really want a Vita.

Havent gone down the 100+hrs JRPGs rabbit hole in a while... And you've got a point about the Vita having some very nice indie ports...

@songhunter: I mean, it's probably an inadvisable purchase, all things considered, so I'd feel bad if I actually sold a Vita with this. That said, I'm most definitely going to get my money's worth out of it, if I put down the excessive amount of money it costs to buy a memory card. And those things, I doubt their ever going to get cheaper, even as the Vita itself does.

So yeah, definitely keep the storage space being stupid expensive as a concern. I have a 4g card that is full right now. If I want to download anything else, I have to delete stuff to do it. If I want to upgrade, an 8g card is in the 45-50$ range. And if I was going to upgrade, an 8g card would still be totally insufficient.

I have yet to watch the Steins;Gate anime, but it's on my list, literally. (MAL) I thought the visual novel was incredible. I've played my fair share of visual novels, like, including a bunch of obscure fan-translated ones because I was in deep for a couple years there, and Steins;Gate is one of, if not the best.

On Tales of Hearts, it's still totally a Tales game as far as gameplay is concerned, and this one even lacks the greatly appreciated feature of random encounters being avoidable. It might be more for fans of the series, though honestly I find this title to be super endearing in its unabashed corniness and anime character tropes, so maybe it's better than that.

I really want to try an Atelier game, but they never seem to go on sale or drop in price at all. Even the oldest ones are holding down a 30$ price point, and as a (once again) broke college student, 30$ is hard to spend. I could see myself dropping 15$ on one, but I've yet to see any for quite that cheap, unfortunately.
