@westernwizard: I do think having Yashiro there to counter will have a similar effect to the attack mirrors, though with it being unreliable with it's aggro-drawing, Attack Mirrors might be a better choice; you're probably right there.
You just hit that point in the fight where he resurrects the adds the second they're destroyed, and the adds self-destruct if you leave them be for too long... It's rough. Attack Mirrors would do the trick for the self-destructing though, you're right.
We were doing so well, then realized we were wasting all our turns on the adds when he was just resummoning them anyway; we had been consistently killing them before they could blow up prior to that, so we had no idea they did that until we decided to focus-fire on the boss. Then they blew up, boss used an all attack, triggered everyones "may survive a lethal blow" thing, then he attacks again, using an all attack, and Boom. Game over.
I was hoping I wouldn't have to grind too much, but he seems to be kind of a DPS wall; if you can't kill his adds quick enough to stop them from blowing up and also get some hits in on the spoilery boss guy, then you'll eventually run out of EP and die. I'm not a huge fan of that kind of boss. He's honestly the first one I've been kind of bummed out by, from a design perspective. None of the other bosses did the whole, "this fight gets way way harder 2/3 of the way in, so you'll have wasted a half hour at least before realizing it's hopeless" thing. At least not in my experience. They typically either shut you down immediately or stay consistently doable the whole fight.
Ah, well. I've still got some side stories to finish up, so I'll get those done while I grind away.
(Using "we" instead of "I" because I've been playing it with my brother, Endurance Run style.)
