Only a week ago I downloaded and watched all of How To Build A Bomb. Little did I know the world would be turned inside-out so soon afterwards. From On The Spot to Arrow Pointing Down via Points! and into the GiantBomb era it's been awesome so far and I'm looking forward to seeing what the future brings.

Took a break from watching The Dark Knight (you know, because it's Christmasy!) to join the F5-fest... wasn't quite fast enough. Congrats to everyone who completed this years quest. Roll-on GOTY first comment contest.

It seems as though Sony Online Entertainment's portal at  http://www.station.com has also now been taken offline. The site is currently displaying the following outage message:

"We have had to take the SOE service down temporarily. In the course of our investigation into the intrusion into our systems we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern for us to take the service down effective immediately. We will provide an update later today (Monday)."

 I noticed this today too. It's particularly reproducible when accessing the achievement stats for those points titans amongst us like Jeff. Whereas someone with not such a complex set of achievements / points like Dave's page doesn't suffer from the same issue. I'm guessing it's a combination of the amount of database queries / rendering resources needed to generate the pages for high achievers that's the issue. The 502: Bad Gateway errors we're seeing appears to come from the reverse proxy that sits between us all and the GB backend infrastructure. The backend is taking longer than the nginx proxy allows it to build the page and the 502 response is basically the result of a timeout so it'll happen on any browser / OS. The give away is the almost exactly 30 seconds waiting time between requesting the achievements page you wanted to look at and the 502 response

I'm sure at quieter times when the loading is lower some of those heavy weight pages will indeed load and I agree that everything else seems to work just fine.
