Oh I am so angry that a light-hearted story appeared on a slow news day. I'm not really, I'm just being silly and cute. Like this story. Which I must say was of more interest to me than hearing about bonus demos for games I'll never play in blu-rays I'll never buy. But I'm not complaining in the comments of that article, because I can always not read the stories I'm not interested in.

Colour me cautiously optimistic. I like the idea that Nintendo almost sat this generation out in terms of a hardware race, filled their pockets, and now they have the chance to beat the other two to the punch.

I'm less optimistic about the online experience, but we'll see how the 3DS stuff pans out.

It's a transitional period for the games industry. It's all a ratio between the scale of production and the success of the end product. Big games need to be bigger than ever to justify their costs, meanwhile two people make a facebook game and through some stroke of luck it grows exponentially in popularity. The middle-ground is tumbling into the abyss. It sucks that developers are still trapped under publishers farming IP out to them, but it's worse that developers are making new IP that doesn't sell because it isn't called X of Y.

I'd be all for another Dungeon Keeper. The first one is my favourite game of all time. At this point it's been so long that they would probably have to reboot it rather than go straight into the proposed DK3, but I'd be perfectly okay with that if it was given the right treatment.
I played Evil Genius, or at least, I tried to, but I found that it lacked the simplicity, the clear goals, and the solid balancing of gameplay Dungeon Keeper had. It just seems overly fiddly. The pure joy of expertly carving out an efficient dungeon of 5x5 rooms, traps, and doors, and then training up an army of monsters is something I've yet to get from any other game.

I played through it on Vista last year. It might have taken some compatibility fiddling, and I recall the map select screen scroll was so fast you could hardly click on the levels, but the actual game part ran fine.

About to install on Windows7 x64, fingers crossed.
