Ranked 23rd in points with E. Honda....

Well, I played pretty much non-stop since I got Super Street Fighter 4 and I'm currently bouncing around number 23 in the whole entire world!

The sad thing is I've only used him ever across both games. Although I am trying to play Dahlsim on the side without much luck. I don't have trouble getting his timing down, its just that I'm so used to a charge character. I'll stick with him but hey, I had to share with anyone, 23!

Game I'm Most Looking Forward to in 09

Easily, Forza Motorsport 3. After some of the artwork came out for that game I had all my excitement come back to me. Contrary to popular 08 games of the year, 2008 was in fact a pretty depressing year for racing games. Grid, Pure, and Burnout all managed to underwhelm me. But 09 is looking so very amazing right now with Forza 3, Dirt 2, and even Gran Turismo 5. Those alone could easily make up for anything that wasn't quite right for me last year. I didn't get the chance to play Midnight Club 3 but might as well add that to the list considering the amount of issues it managed to have. I'll happily admit these racing games weren't bad at all. But for me, they weren't what I wanted.

And Moto GP 08 was terribly awful. 06 and 07 may have set the bar extremely high, but still, come on.....

Also, these other small games you may have heard of:

Resident Evil 5
Bionic Commando
Street Fighter 4
Sonic's Genesis Collection Because the Best Sonic Games are Appearantly Not His

The possibility that we might also hear about Ubisoft sequels has me excited. I feel like I say this constantly now, but Episode 3.....if it came out this year.

Blogging...About Video and Games

Decided to buy these:

Far Cry 2
Fallout 3
Gears 2
Tomb Raider
Banjo

Which means I passed on:

Fable 2
Both Moto GP games
Dead Space

Should have passed on Rock Band 2. Officially feeling bad about playing plastic controllers like that.

Those first two probably have more length then anything that came out this year. Far Cry 2 definitely looks impressive. Did anyone really expect that? I knew it would be technically great! But, it also just looks like a lot of fun.

Rock Band 2 reviewed....by ME!

I've been sitting on a few reviews and I put some up. Rock Band 2, it's just not the soundtrack I wanted.

I was going to get Pure but now I think I'm just waiting for Fable 2. I think I'll be getting Dead Space, Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, Tomb Raider, Banjo, and Gears this year. Too much coming, and I'll just have to miss Mirror's Edge, Prince, etc.

By the way, I still use the Guitar Hero 2 controller for Rock Band. Anyone else think that's easily still the best controller? I've overpaid for those dumb things for years and the first one I got still plays the best.

I'll just end this with a thought...all this Burnout Paradise stuff has been really coming out a lot now, when am I getting my restart button? I really want that. I think they proved their point but come on! You'd test out airplanes but you won't give us a restart button now?!

My Little Gaming Update for the Week

I posted reviews I've had laying around for Call of Duty 4, Lost: Via Domus, and Bioshock. Not a big fan of Bioshock.

I picked up Bionic Commando because somehow I went my whole life without playing the original. Didn't play more than 2-3 minutes but that's enough time to know the presentation is really cool. Somehow I went my whole life and missed it. I've played A LOT of games too. Like, a lot.

Plus I feel good supporting quality remakes. I wish Sega would make a Sonic 4 with the older sprite style. Like Mega Man 9, or Bionic...Where in the world is Vectorman Sega?

Almost have my full 1000 on Soul Calibur 4 achievements. If anyone would like tips for that game PM me. I can give you advice on the most time efficient way to get everything. Lots of trial and error got me into a rhythm. Anyway, after an hour of searching for the items I was missing, I found out you have to beat Story mode with those five anime inspired characters. What a headache....so I almost have all weapons and equipment, almost.

Also, for any racing fans out there, next month Pure and Baja come out one after the other. Both look really good, I'm excited. Pure reminds me a lot of the SSX series. Baja reminds me of the older off-road arcade racers. In other words, I can't go wrong.

Anyone else think ESPN NFL 2K5 is still better than Madden? :)

Weekend at Voldo's

Definitely going to try and finish up Soul Calibur as much as I can. But I've been thinking about doing a little driving around Hawaii too. It's been a while since I crashed my car off a mountain and survived.

Some new reviews and game articles posted by me...

For all none of you that might accidentally read them. :)

Reviews for Soul Calibur IV, Geometry Wars 2, and Tomb Raider: Anniversary.

I just had submissions approved for Moto GP 06 and 07. Both of which I personally think are pretty good. I have one pending for Tomb Raider at the moment but I really enjoy the racing games so I will probably write more of those. Write what you know, right? (write, right, wright, rite, hehe)

Feel free to comment what you think of them on my wall!

Sonic

The biggest wrong turn. What can I even say that hasn't already been mentioned? Sonic 2 is my favorite game of all time, and I'm still waiting for Sonic 4...

After seeing Unleashed, I guess I will keep waiting.

Mega Man 9, Sonic 4 style? Please?

E3: Why does the media rate the press conferences again?

www.yahoo.com, E3 headquarters!
www.yahoo.com, E3 headquarters!

The image pretty much says it all. No, not that Sony is any better or worse than Nintendo or Microsoft…rather that the enthusiast’s press has a bizarre bias apparently.

I don’t really get my gaming news from Yahoo! Hard to find anything worthwhile in the layers of entertainment gossip and obscure political stories they usually put out onto the internet beside their articles on dating and useless health advice. It’s nothing new of course. But I wouldn’t take time to write about it if I hadn’t noticed a trend.  I will have my own impressions of course. I believe Microsoft was the strongest presentation and I will easily justify that. The point I want to make is that if your job is to report what happened at E3, than is it also your job to grade an event like this? I’m allowed to say which console performed the strongest at E3. But if someone is running a professional site or page and they have the voice that I don’t, then should they also be responsible for staying neutral and not declaring a winner? These are giant corporations and all three of them are vying for one thing, money. So they present things that might give them more of it. It’s up to the real artists and developers to give us what we are really looking for. We should be critical of their work. But if you are an IGN writer and part of the Playstation team, then does that give you the right to take the side of the console you write for? Obviously you’d look quite foolish if you insulted your readers. But writers on the site said that Microsoft’s presentation wasn’t very good.

You see, Microsoft demoed some of the most important games coming out in the next year. And while they’re multi-platform releases, the premiere console this year was obviously the 360. Is it possible, in any reasonable way, to say that Fallout 3, Gears of War 2, and Resident Evil 5 weren’t as impressive as a pre-rendered trailer for God of War 3? Or the announcement of an MMO style shooter for 256 players to battle it out; a game that probably won’t see the gaming public for a couple of years? If you are not a console fan boy, and you are about the games, then go with the press conference that offered the best games. Not the best trailers for 2009-2010 releases!

Or, in a simpler, more journalistic way, don’t pick any console winner. Pick the games you think looked most impressive. Maybe the bitter truth that a Final Fantasy title in the main series will make its way onto another console, an American console at that; and that somehow affects your judgment. But it’s happened before. And it isn’t that big of a deal. I’m sure it will be just like every other Final Fantasy. Personally, I’m still anticipating the Final Final Fantasy.

This isn’t a rare case, as other sites have also declared winners. And Microsoft is amongst those winners. Publications and web-sites from newspapers and tech fronts are the main concern here. Gamespot, IGN, and 1UP typically manage themselves pretty well with how they write about such things. Podcasts will discuss the events and declare winners all week. But there will be more talk about the overall shows and not narrow minded perspectives. It will be more about games, I hope.

Netflix and Blu-Ray are big deals, sure. Nobody is denying that the arbitrary movie services and avatar support aren’t important. But you have to go about it two ways. Either you pick the show with the best games, and I think that is very clear at this point. Or you report on the pro’s and con’s of each, leaving it up to the readers to decide which console performed stronger.

Starting with the headline Sony Takes the Lead is irresponsible if you’re the number two search engine on the planet.
