I used to work retail and dealt with plenty of UPS and FedEx guys. The amount of care that they show the packages that my company sold was inconsistent at best. Even the best drivers and the nicest guys will stop caring and mishandle things.
You can do it, Curt! I kinda feel bad about how a passing look at your name could offend someone and how you lost all of your money in a botched attempt at what many gamers dream of... but you were pretty decent ballplayer.
If you are going to play online, use a headset. I can't stand getting stuck in a tank with someone who won't listen or can't tell me what the heck they are doing. Shooting in a given direction doesn't get your attention, jumping doesn't either... so what will it be? Pistols at dawn?
@superkenon: A lot of dubbed games and shows have such terrible matches for VO; this fact seems inescapable (e.g. Laharl from Disgaea is awful). Age appropriateness bothers me more than anything else in VO and the new Chie sounds like a girl more than a woman. Works so well.
@saoakden: a lot of these questions apply to a lot of retail places. I never worked at GameStop but, like a lot of other people, have heard about the job from friends that did. I worked at a big box retailer in the past and while I didn't work in sales, I know all about the pressures of the sales floor. They will push pre-orders and bundles based on whatever corporate or the managers demand. If business is slow or if traffic is high but sales are slow, you will be pressured. A lot of stores push attachment because hardware and game sales generate very little revenue (unless it is a used product; that normally is somewhat profitable).
Regardless, you need to be comfortable talking to all people from all walks of life; parents, kids, teens, every race and gender identity under the sun, and anyone else in between will be in the store at one point or another and you'll need to engage them in order to prevent shrink and make sure you get them everything they need (even if they don't know they need it). If you are outgoing, respectful of others, and knowable about gaming in one respect or another, you'll survive game retail just about anywhere. Passion about gaming can only take you so far; you need to work your butt off for little pay and few hours, but if you do, you'll get recognized for your efforts more often than not.
