Finishing the worst games first

Lately I had too many games I racked up which I had to finish. But I started the race a couple of days ago and finally finished one of the bunch. FarCry 2 was the first where I had to hear a fat lady sing. For some reason I started this game a long time ago but realised that next to the not too bad graphics this game didn't have much more. The story didn't came across as being interesting enough to follow, the gameplay was the worst I've seen in a long time. Most mechanics didn't function like they should,  especially the "shooting-mechanics" which is pretty bad if the game is a FPS. And  repetitive... constantly the same over and over again. Go kill, get or do that, fight way in and out and then resque your buddy and this times 20. It certainly has been a while since I played a game this bad and it made me remember that there's still crap out there. And I know I didn't have to finish it, especially since it was a borrowed game but still, just having not even half of the achievements bothered me like there was no tomorrow. So yea, there you have it. First piece of crap finished and now on to the next one hoping it's not half as bad as this one.

Coma induced Alan instead of sleeping

It must have been more than 3 years ago when I first had seen something from Alan Wake and immediately I was caught by it's surrounding mystery. Back then I had no idea I had to wait "this" long. But only a hour in the game I released why I've been waiting all this time. It  definitely show that they wanted to spend more time to create a good game than releasing something that wouldn't be near the final product they had in mind. No doubt I'm pro for more time in development to deliver a better game, there's enough to keep us occupied and satisfied in the meantime. For me it's the same with Diablo 3. Another game that's in development that I rather have yesterday than tomorrow but still I manage to be patient knowing it only will make things better.
And after not much more than 2 to 3 hours into the game I realised this game surpasses all my expectations with ease. The looks, story, atmosphere, gameplay and whatnot all work great together this far and not many or even no flaws have annoyed me this much that I remember or even noticed them. This certainly is going to be a thrill and fun ride...
BTW: Make sure to check out the free Portal if you missed out on the heads-up Brad posted.
Also recently decided to give up on Modern Warfare 2, can't really tell why. But guess I got annoyed few times too many with idiots doing nothing but using "noobtubes". Even with the new maps coming next month including double XP weekends I still don't see me getting bothered with that game all too much any more.

Gotta have more quests...

As some may have read I've been pretty obsessed with Modern Warfare 2 lately. Not really playing to meet a certain goal, just to have some fun with friends and family. Though there was always something I would've liked and  still didn't do after more then 14 days playtime. And that is mounting enough kills to reach a nuke. Which since I'm not the best player around isn't all too easy, but that all changed recently and don't ask me how but I did it! And that's really it... nothing to it, not satisfying in any way or whatsoever.... lame. Ah well, that's not all I can be happy about. I also got my "growth egg" in FF XIII which let's me earn the double amount of CP. So yea pretty happy with that little item as well. It also looks like I'm close to finishing the game, the story that is. I'll probably continue to clear the remaining achievements.
Further on happy to see new Limited edition quests since I missed out on the first one. I do wonder if I'll finish any of the 1984 ones and I'm still hating the last AV quest I need to post first on a vid. Some day, some day it'll be mine.

What really grinds my gears.

Still busy doing little wiki's, many images and quests. Which I'm enjoying a lot and missed the time I was on a break from it. Certainly loving the community quest challenges but do hope we'll be seeing a limited edition soon since I missed out on the first one. All in all still a brilliant idea from the Giant Bomb crew.
On the game-side of things I recently finished Gears of War 2 on hardcore and I must say it was easier than I expected. Though I think that the "Insane-mode" will cause a bit more problems. Anyway, finishing it gave me a whooping 250 and then some achievement point which made me drool at the very least (I'm such an achievement-whore).
Talking about Gears 2 reminds me. The reason why I waited with buying this game so long was on the one hand pretty stupid since it's such a nice game. On the other hand if I think about how much I now payed for it and what I got for that money I must reconsider "how stupid" I exactly was with waiting. Since I was able to buy the "Game of the Year" edition which contains ALL DLC-maps, the deleted scene from the single player and a premium theme and this all for not even 20 bucks. Yep, you heard me right: "not even 20 bucks". While you can still find the first Gears without any download or whatsoever for 30 bucks on Xbox Live's Games on Demand. Which totally doesn't add up for me when I think of it that a newer version with all sorts of extra costs less than the older version without all those extras... Just can't comprehend... But I won't complain, after all I'm the lucky one. All I had to do is wait a long ass time.
Further on I'm still active in Modern Warfare 2, closing in on the next prestige which will be the 5th time when I get there. But I must say that interests are slowly dropping. Especially now all hope is fading away that there ever will be more new maps coming since Infinity Ward is heading for extinction. Hopefully most plans of new maps where already settled and just need to be finalized and put online. But I doubt we'll see more maps coming to MW2 any time soon, if not ever.
Further on I'm still stuck on doing the Cie'th stones in Final Fantasy 13, collecting and unlocking remaining stuff in Brutal Legend and re-finish Star Wars: Force Unleashed for even more achievements.
So all in all not much to mention just filling up the empty space I found here with a blog, that's all.

All quests and no work makes Grambyte a happy boy

I remember back in the days when I was still using Gamespot that I use to love the emblems on that site and the ways how to get them. Always hoped some sort of similar feature will be making it's way onto Giant Bomb but couldn't expect it to be this awesome. Rewards for contributions, knowledge and then some, it just became even harder to stay away from this site. Which also made me work more than average on the site for different reasons + 1 extra. So I added some new releases, pages and a shitload of images for number of games. I'm also aiming to fill up older ones I've added that are still pretty empty pages. Further on also planning to write some more blogs since I at least have some time for them lately. So as far as I'm concerned I must say that the quests on GB did indeed improve my activity on the site without a doubt.
Further on I of course also played games... doj (isn't that a surprise). Though I'm ashamed to say that it wasn't much more than Modern Warfare 2. Never the less I still got Final Fantasy 13 going strong and expect to pick that up any day soon. At the moment I'm trying to finish all the Cie'th Stone missions before continuing the story but it's a pretty annoying let me tell you that. Nothing more than; get quests, travel (mostly far) to destination, kill enemy and rise and repeat. But the thought of a sweet reward at the end of it all keeps me going. So yea, I don't even expect to finish that game any time soon. Then there's also still Brutal Legend which I'm against all odds am enjoying A LOT. Apart from the good amount of humor in the game I must say that the different genres that they tried to melt together in this game do the trick. It does feel coherent most of the time.
Never the less next to the above 3 games there's also The New Super Mario Bros., Star Wars: Force Unleashed, FarCry 2 and probably 1 or 2 others I can't come up with at the moment that are waiting for me to finish them. Which makes me in a way appreciate the times when I was a little kid and depending on my parents for my games which created a much more regulated "flow" of games I play and finish. Now I have this list of games I need to finish that doesn't seem to stop growing, depressing in a way. If only I had the strength to not buy every new release I lay my eyes on. I really wonder how some in the same or similar situation pull this off tho. Plz do let me know in a comment, your wisdom will greatly be appreciated. Which does remind me.... I better stop writing and start playing. cya

Play a lot, quest a little

It's been ages since I wrote a blog. And yes "the quests" put me to it. But hey it's an AWESOME feature and I sure like to participate. Then again it would be pretty idiotic to just wrote something here for the quest's sake and eventually wouldn't even have much meaning and sense as "a blog-entry". So why not sum up the game streak I've been having since few months back.
And one thing in particular comes to mind and that is Modern Warfare 2. It's been since Halo 2 that I've liked a shooter till this degree. Then again it's also Halo 2 all over again as far as the chat and comments go. But that won't spoil the fun for me, not even the cheaters desperately finding ways to get images to put next their name and forget to actually "play" the game. Ah well, all in all I'm still loving some shooting every now and then.
But even with that game taking a lot of time out of my schedule, I also find ways to play that I love most. RPG's! And I played a lot of them recently, which might mean I have too much time on my hands. Then again, you won't hear me complain. First of all Eternal Sonata which I finally finished. An enjoyable game but that's nuff said. It has it's charm that you might be able to learn something bout Chopin IF it wouldn't be presented as nothing more than actual textbook data accompanied with a pretty picture. Ah well, not bad not outstanding either. Dragon Age which I cleaned inside out with all three classes is a different story. I picked up this game thinking I wasn't really going to like it all that much. But then it started to grow on me. Still don't like the way Bioware designs, didn't with Jade Empire and don't with Dragon Age either. Then again the gameplay and story are great which let's me forget bout the character design and whatnot all together. Then there's also Final Fantasy which I started on launch day and still haven't finished. And I can't say much bout that game yet apart from the fact I'm one of the FF-fans that does like this game A LOT. Also the second Marvel Alliance rpg I recently added to my collection and did take a quick peek but decided it's best to wait till some of the other games I'm busy with are finished. Cause there's also FarCry 2. Star Wars: BlablasomethingIcan'tremembernowbutit'sthelastone and of course Brutal Legend, all borrowed games so a little stress in finishing em as well within the little time left after playing all the preferable rpg's and some pewpew. FarCry though sucks.. don't even want to spend more words on that game than this. Then I must say that against all odds I do like the Star Wars game, maybe not cause it's so brilliantly designed or it's innovative gameplay since it doesn't have none of those things. But being a Star Wars fan I must say I do like fighting with a Jedi, simpel. And then there's Brutal Legend and that game simply rocks! Love the way how the different genres of games are combined in it. And you all know the saying: A little metaltrashing a day keeps the doctor away.
So yeah, a shitload of achievements, gimme, gief, got, me achief-whore, drool, grlgrlgrlgrl.... dripdrip 60k+. Yey!
And much more I can't think of right now and maybe I just start writing some blogs again since it's was enjoyable. I don't have a clue if it was enjoyable to read but hey, we can't have it all. Anyway there you have it and till the next one.

6th time's a charm

No Caption Provided
Like many I was there @ launch of the 360 ready to get mine. Played happily for a few months (maybe year tops) after which it broke. This was the beginning of a long period of sending and receiving Xbox's from Microsoft. In total I've got just about 4 Xbox's before I ended up with the one I played with for a couple of years. Though @ the end of last year I could notice it was going downhill so I prepared on getting a new one since I had my eyes on the elite version for some time. And indeed little less than a month ago I turned on my Xbox to be "surprised" by the Ring of Death. So what's said is done and now I'm a happy owner of a new, black and still just as noisy Xbox Elite. But here's the thing. I also decided to give it a shot to get my "old Xbox" repaired in case of you never know. And surely enough on my account page (somewhere) I could see that indeed my warrant has expired. But there also was a note attached. Which stated something I still till this days have no idea what it meant. But this confusion made me think there was still a shot @ it never the less. So I called the suckers and told the story, blabla, Ring of Bla, blablabla. After which and you never believe this. Cause it's been almost 5 years since the first purchase I will receive a new or @ the least fixed Xbox. Making this my 5th Xbox Microsoft will send me! And I can hear you thinking: "but it's just your old repaired Xbox that you got back". Which would be my thoughts exactly, but this isn't the case. Each Xbox I received had a different serial number than the one previously send.

All by all it's indeed a fact I lost @ the least 2 months of game time because of this. But then again counted on a 5 year time period I must say I can't complain.

And so the work continues

Well not much changed the last few weeks. Still working my ass off, still not playing nearly enough games as I would want to and still frustrated about the previous two facts. Added to that is the fact that there's not much improvement coming up in the future.
Maybe a little light at the end of the tunnel is that I'll be getting Resident Evil 5 tomorrow. I've been fond of the RE series from the moment the first one got released for the PS. So I'm pretty stocked about this new release which I've been tracking for some time now. I've also played the demo which came across as being a bit hard"-ish". Then again the reason I found it a bit harder than normal could be because my girlfriend was demanding every bit of attention I've got to share. Making sure I didn't have much left to spend on the Demo. So I not got my weekend already planned being not much more than play RE5, drink, eat, fart and sleep play more RE5.
I've also managed to get some nice amount of achievements lately despite the fact I got just about no spare time. But this has an obvious reason which is the free and mainly stupid game of Doritos I've found the day before yesterday. Being not even worth to be called " a game "  it still delivered me a nice free 200 achievement point in 10 min. And no matter how bad the game was, I won't complain about getting that amount for spending so little time.
Further on I also finished Mass Effect this week. Now I'm trying to rack up as many achievements as I can from that game before I'm totally fed up with it. But I'm afraid that point will arrive sooner than I would like. Then again it wouldn't matter that much because I can't see me playing Mass Effect while having RE5 collecting dust.
So yea, not all too much interesting news this time but who knows I might become loose my job and all of the sudden have too much time on my hands to play games. Not that I hope that would happen, though it would help out with these oh so boring blog content. Until then you'll have to do with my not even remotely interesting blogs.

Flood week

Been very busy past week and will be upcomming weeks as well. At work we're overrun by assingments while rest still lingers in recession. Pretty strange if you ask me that our branche is doing pretty well in comparison to many others. Tho there's a downside to this flurish, being the fact that I don't have much time to play games lately and if I do I'm too tired to even lift a controller. Still I do find some space in the agenda  to finish the main story in Fallout 3., which I did last week after having played a thrilling 53 hours. And even after all that time spend I still had more than 1/4 left to be discovered. Now I must say that after playing trough the game I indeed can agree that this game is nothing more than Oblivion in another setting... But I don't see the problem in that tho. Oblivion was a solid concept that worked out really great so why make changes to a great concept like that. We can't expect that every game that gets released is all that different than the other one. Of course you won't hear me say that good changes aren't welcome. But I'm just as happy playing yet another game that was practically cast from the same mold as the previous except for these minor little differences of which Fallout is a perfect example. All by all I think it's a great game in an awesome setting and couldn't ask for better with all these DLC's. As soon one gets released the other one is announced. Next please, Bethesda.
Then there's Fable 2 which also got me occupied every now and then but not too much cause the game is good for like 2.3hours of gameplay. And yes it does look nice, story is not too bad indeed but down Peter! Yet again he failed in my eyes in delivering here. Like the original Fable  this one also felt it came short in so many ways, specially when I noticed I finished it within the 10hours! And that for an RPG... sigh if you ask me LH just needs to close their doors and Peter should get a job as Cliniclown, cause one thing he can do is project possitive energy (as long he's talking about Fable that is). Anyway, after all LH did announce the release of more DLC for Fable 2 and that way wanting to extend the gameplay experience. But for me it's seeing is believing... shame such a damn shame.
Then there's C & C: Tiberium Wars which I picked up for like 15 bucks. And I must say I'm enjoying myself thusfar. This game is also a pretty good example for RTS game being released for console, it just works...
Another game I recently bought is Lock's Quest, which is an action RTS for the DS and is perfect for these short game -seessions if you ask me.
Further on there's not much to mention but that the "new Gamebits project" is put on hold cause of these busy times. And a daylie blog probably isn't going to make it on here cause the same reason. But I'll at the least try to put up a weekly report of the boring game related stuff that keeps me occupied. Tho the picture upload and minor addictions to Giant Bomb will continue since it's frikn addictive!
ps.: Cause I'm short of time I just thrown this blog on here not spending any attention to how I wrote neither did I spend attention to the spelling, so sorry if it bothers you. I suggest you don't read the next ones... If it didn't, see you next blog.

Refocus

Certainly has been a while since I was active on this site. This mainly cause of the release of WoW: Wrath of the Lich King which confiscated most of my free time. But luckily a combination of things made me take a well deserved break. The loss of interest in WoW, my career or even the new games for the 360 I recently bought are all contributing to what hopefully will be the last time I take some time off from WoW. But never mind the past, let's talk future.

For instance the renewal of Gamebits.nl, which I'll soon will be putting back online. There you can find my daily blog and other things that keep me occupied. But I'll also try to integrate the new Giant Bomb API-possibilities as far as I'm able to. Of course I'll also still put my blogs on here as well. Another thing I'll also be getting back into is uploading the "shitloads of images" which I'm well known for. So you can certainly expect more official and original images from all sorts of games coming Giant Bomb's way.

Further on there's just my lately game experiences about which I still want to do some reporting on, but I'll save that for the next blog entry. It's just a matter of spreading the content, no?
