Sorry to go deeper with this, but which comment? If you mean that the characters' races are unimportant, it was in reference to an earlier comment which said

Unfortunately all the games are going to be about the "struggle."

I'm pretty sure nothing is ever made of the characters' race or skin tone in any of the following:

Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death is a fun action/adventure with a black male protagonist.

One of the male protagonists in Dreamfall Chapters is also dark-skinned (fantasy human race, though).

One of the protagonists in Thimbleweed Park is a hispanic man.

One of the protagonists in I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream is a black woman.

The protagonist in Mutazione seems to not be white.

Came here to mention Yoku's Island Express, but now that you have I'll shill Wandersong instead. Also designed to make you smile and cheer for the bard who wants to save the world. There's a few (very short) frustrating bits, but overall it's really fun. There's a quick look of it.
