We got a several great turn-based tactical games this year. It's been quite the renaissance for what is normally a niche genre. I really enjoyed the return-to-roots that Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia brought to the franchise. It was a wonderful breath of fresh air after the disappointing mess Fire Emblem Fates turned out to be. Hopefully they continue the Echoes branding to remake all the Japan-locked games in the franchise.
This new Xcom 2: War of the Chosen expansion is pretty good. They added a ton of new stuff to the base campaign, and while it can be overwhelming and a bit of a slog at times, it's still a blast.
Mario + Rabbids was a totally unexpected surprise reveal, I can't wait to play that later on when I have access to a Switch. Seeing future non-Nintendo takes on Nintendo IP is going to be real exciting.
Finally, we have Divinity: Original Sin II, which despite the silly name, is looking to be a great followup to the original Kickstarter hit. Larian seem to be pouring all the budget they can into making the best game possible first time out this time. It's going to be nice to see what they can do with the better production values right out of the gate.
