Already a check in and sorta post-mortem on Phish?

Yo, scoops. I enjoyed this piece, its fucking killer. But you got me hungry now. I now seriously want to read about someone we don't already know a lot about.

@Spellbot5000: For someone who clearly cares so little about the game, you really spent a disproportionate amount of your life clicking through to this article and writing a comment on it. Why?

Wow, staff biting back. Certainly rare :)

I have been a fan watching video games getting played professionally and speed run for a long time and have absolutely loved the explosion of easy and accessible streaming. This piece was a surprise and I really liked it, nice work Brad. Also I really want to share my opinion on a statement you made towards the end.

@Brad said:

" I very earnestly believe there's no purer an expression of complex video game mechanics and the human ability to approach mastery of them than what's going on with pro-level StarCraft these days."

This is wonderfully put and my favorite sentence in the whole piece. The passion represented is exactly what any fan would say of their favorite competition to watch.

All I wanted to say is that, just because StarCraft 2 is your favorite and the game you understand the most does not make it the purest. I wouldn't say that about my favorite game that I watch over StarCraft now, DOTA 2. No one can discern which is the most pro. Other games have closely matched and sometimes bettered the StarCraft recipe in terms competitive game play.

Oh and yeah I am hyped for Heart of the Swarm.

Whoa, nice press for MLB.TV, haha. I don't think it would have gotten acknowledged or made news on its own here on GiantBomb or everywhere else if it wasn't tagging along with HBO. As PS3 owners know, it's really not that great of a service.

Wow you're just so incredibly wrong. But hey, opinions.

So incredibly? I don't think the video service has been that good for me to be incredibly wrong.

"It’s been a pretty slow two weeks, huh?"

That was a joke right? Like it was slow because of the transition? But it wasn't actually in the world of video games. I think I started my friday a little early...

Well I am happy to have discovered some good comments in here. Nice work duders.

I can't wait to know what the 8-4 Play crew will say about all this on their podcast. There are so many exceptions in my opinion to that general statement that the state or quality of Japanese games overall are bad, that I can't just accept it. Yes, Inafune, the country is not winning in sales, but its not devoid of motivation from my perspective.

So development of the multiplayer is being handled by the same developer as the Medal of Honor single-player that was pretty much universally reviled? What could possibly go wrong?

Universally? Personally, the single-player was the most interesting bit of Medal of Honor (2010). And even then it was still a scripted corridor.

It's nice that Danger Close has another chance at making a game because I really liked some of the things in Medal of Honor (2010). I know this has little chance of coming true, but I hope they take Warfighter more in the direction of tactical simulators like the old Rainbow 6 and Ghost Recon games. I really want Danger Close to make good on their mission to deliver an "authentic" military-themed experience. Medal of Honor (2010) still felt a bit too silly at times.

Also, as Danger Close is using Frostbite 2.0, I hope they tone down all the god damn lens flare and lighting effects.

You know even Killzone 3 had an operator heavy mission that felt like it was straight out of MoH, haha. My friends and I enjoyed the campaign as well and a bit of the multiplayer. It was not universally reviled at all.

I am looking forward to what Danger Close is developing, despite the boring title. I also wonder how not using the Unreal Engine has changed the design of their game. I'm with you I would really like, specifically, Rainbow Six 3 type multiplayer again. Probably the best shooter for firearm nerds still.

Rabbit, Never Forget.

I totally had time today to join the racing festivities, I was even playing GT5 this morning. Ended up taking a nap right through the race time. I am sick with the flu, fever and all, so I get some hard swings of being tired but damn.

Apologies guys.

It's funny that he mentions how the fighting game genre was flooded in the nineties, because Capcom is really close to single-handedly flooding it this time.

I wouldn't say that at all. It's certainly not just Capcom, these are all of the fighting games are announced for 2012 alone:

Skullgirls, BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend, Soulcalibur V, Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena, Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Dead or Alive 5.

GET HYPE.

EDIT:

Reading the rest of the comments plenty have responded to what I quoted. Sorry if it seems like I am just piling on the point that its not just Capcom.

I respect his work but what a damn troll.

Same. It's hard to know if he lies, unknowingly states a fact that isn't one, etc. He has a tough and very public role. But mad respect for him being public at all. Wish more Japanese developers were.
