Favorite Female Characters

Everyone, male or female, has different tastes in games and the types of characters they prefer to play or interact with. This is certainly not a complete list of the "best" characters from the "best" games, they just happen to hold a special place in my heart.

List items

  • I loved Mortal Kombat II as a kid, but was not allowed to own it since it was deemed "too violent" by my mom. So I played it a lot at friends' houses and arcades. Kitana is a somewhat overly-sexualized female fighter, which I don't usually care for, but really I just like the way she says "KITANA" it makes me laugh.

  • A strong female fighter who is sexualized, but not overly so. Plus I love the Leia buns in her hair.

  • Beautiful, elegant, and strong without balloon boobs in my face. (Not that I'm saying I don't like boobs. Everyone likes boobs.)

  • While the opinions of Mirror's Edge tend to be mixed, and playing the game gave me serious vertigo/ fits of vomiting, Faith is pretty bad-ass. She's strong and sexy, but not super-human or overly sexualized. She's my kinda gal. Plus, who doesn't want to be able to successfully do parkour off of skyscrapers?

  • I think I'm in love with GLaDOS. She's smart, snarky, and borderline evil.

  • I was always disappointed that there wasn't at least one level in Conker's Bad Fur Day where you could play as Berri.

  • She was sexy, but she didn't really know it. She a tomboy who did magic and used a whip: enough said.

  • While I never loved Metroid, I have to tip my hat to this iconic female protagonist, she paved the way.

  • She just makes me chuckle.

  • Arguably the first female protagonist in a video game.
