@zappymufasa: There's Eternal Darkness at the Heart of My Soul, but that has the worst dynamic for me. Dan is aggressively annoying and Bakalar is at his grumpiest. I get that the antagonism is the point in that context, but I don't find it all that funny or entertaining.
I prefer Bak 2 Skool, where Dan was receptivelyinquisitive and Bakalar was befuddled by his antics in a more positive light. Bakalar took on a mocking tone there, but he knows restraint, so it was not a constant dump on Dan for being ignorant.
Now Grubb is a better fit for Dan's trolling. He's more playful and goes along with bits more often. Even so, there are times in Grubbsy 3D that it's still too much. I'm fine with running gags, but not when they are run into the ground and pounded through the concrete. Very rarely does it loop around to being funny again to me.
I'm okay with where things are at all. Really enjoy Arcade Pit and Jeff Jeff's. VMDT is usually a lot of fun. Didn't think I'd be into TVOS, but it worked for me and now I miss it. Blight Club is fine, but overbearing at times. Eternal Darkness is very hit-or-miss for me. UPF has turned in one-off Playdates, which can also vary depending on the game. All the in-person events have been incredible so far.
Jan and Grubb have been very consistent and form a solid foundation for the team. I've been a fan of Jan from his start and he has become the new face of GB for me. I like Jess a lot, but notice her appearances have lowered so she can work more on Hot Takeouts. Would also love to see more from Tam and Lucy, but understand the limitations. I'm fine with Dan's infrequency. A little goes a long way for me.
The biggest change has been my growing appreciation of Grubb. He handles the news with aplomb, but I'm not as interested in the industry side of things. I like being informed about important topics, but that's not the main reason I come to GB. His solo debut with Grubbsnax did not demonstrate his ability to gel and banter with pretty much anyone. He is highly reliable and down for anything. It's impressive that he shows up on the majority of the active programs.
@notkcots: Thanks for your reasonable perspective. I understand your points even though I don't share some of them. But I agree that being upfront and transparent about the links would have been better. As someone that still enjoys GB, I think communication continues to be a major issue. The crew has been put in compromising positions by the management time after time. It's unfair and exhausting. So the concerns are warranted, but I hope they can continue to fight through it and eventually arrive at a stable point, if that's at all possible in the nightmare hellscape we are calling reality nowadays.
I'm a total square when it comes to recreational substances. I don't even drink coffee, much less drugs and alcohol. Personally, I don't feel the need to alter or enhance my mood that way. But I have no issue with other people partaking. As long as they are being safe and responsible, go for it.
