  1. Wildermyth
  2. Hitman 3
  3. Jurassic World Evolution 2
  4. Resident Evil Village
  5. Tales of Arise
  6. Forza Horizon 5
  7. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  8. The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes
  9. Death Stranding Director's Cut
  10. Chivalry 2

I love how different everyone's lists are here. I've heard a few people refer to this year as another 2014 but I found this year to be amazing for games. I had a few tough cuts from this list and I didn't even get around to playing a few others that I am pretty confident would have competed for a spot (Inscryption, Bowsers Fury, Psychonauts 2). Wildermyth was a surprise launch as I never heard anything about it before hand and Xcom style tactical games are my jam. Hitman 3 is more Hitman and that's awesome. JWE2 has been a huge time sync that I'm far from done with. Resident Evil Village is the first Resident Evil I have gotten into since the original release of the second one. Tales of Arise is the first Tales game that I was really able to sink my teeth into, even if there were too many cut-scenes (even for someone like me who generally likes cut-scenes). Forza Horizon is some awesome, do as you see fit fun. Ratchet was beautiful and a damn good Ratchet game. Dark Pictures was great to play co-op with my wife as always. It was great to go back to Death Stranding, ignore and skip past all of the story bits, and just build roads and zip lines to my hearts content. And then there is Chiv 2 for some great melee axe to the face fun. What an awesome year for games.

2021 has been a great year for games for me. Right now my top five are:

  1. Wildermyth
  2. Hitman 3
  3. Jurassic World Evolution 2

  4. Resident Evil Village
  5. Tales of Arise

I really sunk some time into all of the games on my top 5 and had a blast with them, especially Wildermyth. I do still want to get to Psychonauts 2 and Inscryption but I'm not sure I will have the time before the end of the year. I'm currently still making my way through Tales of Arise but I think I am getting close to the end.

So I have been loving Tales of Arise so far. I am an action RPG fan and have been loving the story so far.

My only prior experience with the Tales series has been Tales of Berseria which was enjoyable for a short time . I fell off of it due to the emptiness of the environments and I felt no motivation for combat, but I also came to it very late. My question is, if I love Tales of Arise and fell off of Tales of Berseria, are there any Tales games you think I should go back and play or do you think I should just look forward to what comes after Arise?

  1. Jurassic World Evolution 2 - This game is fantastic especially if you are a fan of Jurassic Park. It has some flaws but they are minor and it is a blast creating your own dinosaur park. I have finished the campaign and Chaos Mode and am now working on Challenge mode. I am expecting to be done within the next two weeks.
  2. The Dark Picture Anthologies House of Ashes - My wife and I love playing these games together. This might be my favorite one in the series so far.
  3. Wildermyth - This is my favorite game in a long time. Tactical strategies are my jam and this is a very good one coupled with fantasy lore. It's very well done and I'm close to the end.

I think Wildermyth has taken over the top spot for me away from Hitman 3. I love tactical strategy games and this fantasy XCOM style game where your dialog choices can have profound affects on your character, let alone party composition, is really agreeing with me. The game is not afraid to challenge you and mix up game play when encountering a boss which keeps things fresh. Also, an excellent value for the money at only $25.

Hitman 3 is still holding the crown for me this year with Resident Evil Village a close second.

@ginormous76: My experience has been similar to yours. I've been working through the pandemic but have been working from home since March of 2020. I work four 10 hours days and save 2 hours on commuting now. Before, I almost never played games on work days since I would be out of the house for so long and would be too tired. Now I play on work days in conjunction with weekends, I work out more, and just mentally feel better. I've always been a person who likes a lot of alone time so that's probably why this lifestyle suits me. I finally started working on my backlog which has been several years in the making but, I will admit, gamepass has slowed down that process.
