@metalbaofu: Forget the snow area, I really didn’t warm up to this game until about chapter 4 when the story actually started going somewhere. This is one of those situations of “well just play for x hours and the game will get good”. Well it turns out you have to play for about 40 hours for that to happen, up until then it’s just a bunch of meaningless robberies and whatnot. I was so close to just quitting the game but now I’m super into the story. I see what they were going for in those early chapters and how it ties in later but I can’t say any of that was great at the time and also the gameplay still isn’t much fun even here at the end of chapter 6.

@dodobasse: I’ve long been a fan of primarily draft in MTG. Sure it costs you some money but that aspect kind of adds to the fun, it’s a bit like playing poker for money in that way. Also if you do good you can earn your packs back and then some. The fact that you have the same odds as everyone else in draft means it’s not really pay to win, just to pay to play. That’s why in all these types of games I shy away from constructed because there’s always a way to “solve” a set and then everyone who’s put in the money ends up with the same 8 decks. There are people that enjoy that aspect and more power to them. There will always be an element of “pay to win” in constructed card games but no matter how much you pay you still have to play the game and actually be good at it when you’re going up against other people who have also “payed to win”.

Anyways I’m rambling. I haven’t actually played this game yet but I’m looking forward to doing some drafts at some point when my gaming plate isn’t so full. My guess is I will enjoy it, probably a little too much, since I’m not bothered by the pay to play aspect.

Honestly the way I see it is this game is supposed to be like MTG. It's weird to me that this game is being lambasted for being pay to play but it's no different than MTG in that respect. Yes there are other games you can play free and progress (like Hearthstone) but this isn't that, it was made by the creator of MTG.

I hate this game. All I want to do is unlock characters for game night with my friends tomorrow and after 4 hours played all I’ve managed is unlocking 3 characters (out of 8 challengers). Some of those failed challengers I’ve lost against more than once. Now I can’t even get a challenger to appear anymore. I’ve done the whole play a timed match for 15 minutes then some 1 stock matches and restart the game thing but I haven’t seen a challenger in over an hour. This is the single most frustrating experience I’ve had with a game all year, and I played Hollow Knight.

Correction : *All games are* murdering my data cap. Everything these days has frequent and large updates that get me near my cap almost every month.

@rofljosh484: The game really needs to tell you about the whole AI/Human thing. People’s reaction to the game says to me that needs to happen.

@ll_exile_ll: I think a better comparison is something like Overwatch. It also is a multiplayer game at its core but they don’t make you waste a bunch of time just to unlock all the characters to fight each other with because multiplayer is the whole point.

@micemoney: It’s not that easy though. It’s time consuming and I suck at the game so actually beating the challengers is a practice in banging my head against the wall. This talk of it “going quick” seems a little ridiculous to me also. I’ve been trying to cheese it by quitting the game after challengers and I’ve only encountered 4 after at least an hours worth of play, and only beat 2. If I want to get the other 64 challengers that will be another 16 hours of playtime even if I beat them all first try.

Unlocking is especially infuriating when you lose to a challenger. I’m not good at this game, neither are my friends, that’s why we can have fun playing it together. So to have to be good to unlock these characters and fail just sucks.

Yeah this was really obnoxious. The only way I ever plan on playing this is with friends locally so to me it’s super lame.
