This could just be me projecting but I think a lot of AEW fans are bitter, grizzled, former WWE fans. They're pissed and they want to get out the aggression that they've built up over the years on the perceived perpetrator. There's no way to get at Vince realistically so they fight him through proxy via his defenders on social media.
It's sad to think that these defenders, these battered spouses, that have complained and hated this product for years are now stuck defending it against its defectors.
Yeah, I'm really enjoying it. I think this game probably represents the biggest disparity between my opinion of a demo/beta and a full release. It's not the live game to end all live games or anything like that but for what it is it's solid. The steady stream of unlockable cosmetics through the character battle passes and vendors is also very satisfying. It's a decent brawler where you get to see the numbers go up, great!
Reddit has been freaking out about 3 things that I totally agree with though: enemies use too many unblockables, you're constantly getting staggered, and there are turrets everywhere. Also the matchmaking has been broken all week which totally sucks.
Wow, that Dark Order segment. Just wow, so good. Great pacing, great promo by Brodie, him avoiding Silver's high five xD, they set up the next challenger, and then the babyfaces got to stand tall at the end so it didn't all end on a down note.
There was a fantastic wide shot of Brodie retreating with Anna Jay and Cabana backstage to safety amidst the chaos of the Dark Order goons beating up the faces, then he grabs Uno by his collar and yells in his face for letting his party get ruined. I don't often notice quality directing and shot composition in pro wrestling but this really jumped out at me.
Apparently, #9 was Brandon Cutler. Which reminds me, they never followed up on that mystery Dark Order member storyline that they were doing back in December-February.
It's really difficult to see Zack Ryder as anything other than a dude that did nothing but job for 13 years. Maybe AEW has a plan to change that perception but, yeah, when he came out I was pretty nonplussed. Also, the setup for the debut was strange. Reynolds and Silver attack by themselves for what reason exactly?
And I really hope the Cameron thing is just for the tournament. She was awful in WWE and to my knowledge has done no wrestling since she left. Maybe she takes the pin and Nyla kills her and that's that. If they signed her though, that's a gigantic blunder.
