I was playing Duke Nukem 3D the other day and it occurred to me that at no point did I think "wow this feels really outdated"

That game is like 12 years old and yet feels like any other FPS game going. Do you think this is because the FPS genre has evolved so little in that time and is that because developers don't want to take risks or because they just nailed the method so perfectly back then that theres no need to change it?

Anyone have any good stories about times they pranked their friends?

Me and some friends played an OK one last night. The three of us were driving around along with some friends who were in another car. We were chasing them and they were trying to lose us. Well eventually we stopped and bought some silly string and got them OK next time we found them.

After that though things escalated a bit. We were convinced they were going to try and get us back so we stopped to get some eggs and flour ready to retaliate. Eventually we met up on a hill overlooking the town where it was obvious the two groups were just waiting to see who would make the first move. We managed to hit the back of their car with the eggs and flour before making a quick getaway.

Everything was cleaned up afterwards so it was a pretty good prank to play. I’m sure you’ve all got much better ones though so lets hear them?

Ken Levine is the only man pushing the story telling element in our medium forward. Games like MGS are just taking their cues from films and using cutscenes to tell the story. Ken is actually progressing the medium by working story into his games in a seemless way, creating the highest sense of immersion.

Put simply MGS tells a story in a way that any film could. Bioshock tells a story in a way only a videogame could.

While I believe the guys at Valve are doing the same thing with the Half-Life games there isn't that 1 man above all running the show on the creation side like Ken is.

Hats off to Ken and I hope you push it even more in Bioshock 2.

I don't think it needs to have any ties to the previous game at all. Sort of like how the Final Fantasy games are not tied together by any direct plot threads despite the numbering suggesting so.

I'd rather Ken Levine just let his imagination run wild again and not be constrained by the world of Bioshock 1.

I have submitted about 35 things , most of them the first day this site was launched
only 3 of them were answered with an acceptance or a decline 3 DAYS AFTER THEY WERE SUBMITTED

Here is an idea , LOCK submissions , put all your staff on moderating them , and after you get a major chunk knocked out
give users a limit of 5 submissions per day for about a week then increase it to 10 permanantly

and leave shit how it is , we cant even make points with reviews for god sakes

Relax man. It's a temp move and only relates to the creation of new pages not wiki edits in general.
