I read that Valve have got one of the guys behind Google Sketchup working on this. If you've never used sketchup, it's probably the easiest-to-use 3D modelling tool ever made, so it bodes well for the level editor.

Watching Crusader:NR was strongly reminding me of LBA and the indoor parts of LBA2 - even the steam-and-valve puzzles were similar.
 
As I remember, the original LBA (called Relentless in the US, I believe) had some seriously frustrating stunlock-type issues when enemies shot at you. This was a bit better in LBA2, and also they made the outside graphics polygonal (though kept the isometric style inside buildings). Also of course both games have a fantastic music score.
