This makes me want a Maniac Mansion style adventure game in VR. I guess that's basically what this is mechanics-wise, but I'd like more story, world and characters to interact with. I guess I'll dust off the Vive and give this game a whirl.

After the first match set I already don't care whether or not Vinny ever ends up beating Dan.

Just started watching, but so far the few effects shots that have a stand-in Paul Walker are not too bad.

If you're setting social interaction and time constraints and making as-dry-as-possible VR quicklook segments then you're probably dooming yourself to producing the video equivalent of shovelware. I think it might be a good idea to reexamine the format and production of VR-related video content, otherwise it hardly seems worth the time required to set up the recording. It's weird to me that Jimmy Fallon's VR content on the Tonight Show feels more engaging and a more creatively leveraged use of the technology than Giant Bomb's.

I think the only context in which I'd consider the writing in this game "deep" is perhaps from a 10 year old boy's perspective. The variety of game mechanics are novel and the music was very good, but the melodrama, predictable story tropes, and cheesy dialogue without a hint of irony seemed to vary between dull to eyerollingly embarrassing to listen to.

I think Double Dragon 2 would be a good choice for the next game - it's short enough, has some entertaining challenges, but very beatable if you put a little time into it. TMNT2: Arcade would be a another fitting one, and of course Super C eventually.
