@redking56: Creed was pretty bad about that, but arguably that movie wasn't about the love interest. Then again for every few Creeds there is a Room or a Carol or even the Intern which goes maybe a step too far in swapping around gender roles.

I get what you're saying but I don't think ALL of Japanese media is that gracious to women on such a consistent basis. I'd say that while Western media keeps a very steady line, Japan tends to have glorious highs and spectacular lows in terms of character representation - they're just generally all over the place. Western games might not have strong characters like The Boss pop up that often, but they also don't have face touching mini games randomly inserted into fairly serious RPGs.

@redking56: The average game? Maybe, but even that is a bit of a stretch when you take under account the dozens of JRPG's where characters aren't strong independant women like The Boss or Lightning from FF13. Film? I wouldn't go that far. There are plenty of really well written female roles in American cinema. If you want to go by average action flick or something of that ilk then everything rings somewhat shallow on both sides of the world.

I'm right there with you about the book and the cover and all that. I also don't like it when the internet cries foul over any female character that is displaying even a hint of sexuality despite being well written. I was merely suggesting, and this was true of 2-3 years back from some documentaries I watched, that it really is hard to be a woman in Japan because of the way gender roles still seem to prevail in that country. Maybe things have changed since 2013, I don't know. Last I heard it was still kind of bad over there. Not to say the US or lord forbid the antiquated Europe is better, but apparently not quite as bad as Japan. Then again I've never lived there, so I can only assume what I read was true.

The most terrifying thing for me is that after Vinny spent all this time talking about these books way back in the past I went ahead and read like 2 or 3 of them ..and I remember absolutely nothing from any of them. This is like a year or two ago.

EDIT: Also Space Marine - solid game.

Going to bed at 9 at night is fucking insane.

I'm on the Rorie schedule I go to bed at around 2am every night and get up for work at 7:30am. I attribute this to working a night shift job all throughout college and getting used to going to sleep at 6-7am and going to work at 6pm.

@eloj: Nvidia cards on average perform better than AMD cards.

That said, I do have a R9 390 and haven't had the crashes in Dark Souls 3 yet. So go figure.

With the current crop of DX11 games yeah that seems to be the case, the early reports about AMD cards running better on DX12 is promising from a competition standpoint. Obviously it's early days and it will be a couple of years to really see how that all plays out. Not to mention we're still waiting on whatever specs of Pascal will be.

I mean AMD are objectively worse cards in a market that only has two brands. It's hard to fault people for going with the cards that on average pull off more frames, run cooler and oftentimes are quieter than the competition. A lot of games also use PhysX that sometimes offers significant graphical flourishes (as is the case of Warframe) that AMD simply does not have an answer to. The two things that AMD has going for it is the lower price point and this DX12 jump that is theoretically supposed to make them pull ahead of Nvidia. As a Radeon owner I played Rise of the Tomb Raider on DX11 and then DX12 and saw marginal differences; nothing that would get me to sway someone over to an AMD purchase. To be honest the only reason I have an AMD card is that my brother works at ASUS and was able to get me the 390 for dirt cheap. Once the new Nvidia cards are out and the current 980's drop in price I'll probably get one of those instead because the performance on this 390 ain't great and it can get pretty goddamn loud despite touting new silent-fan technology or whatnot.

I wrote all this nonsense to say that it's a little more than blind brand loyalty that sways people into buying Nvidia over AMD. This DS3 situation is a very rare occurrence where owning an AMD card is beneficial to the gamer. I'm sure that just by saying that I've jinxed myself and DS3 will not only start crashing but probably brick my video card now.

This seems identical to Gears 3 in a bummer sort of way.

I liked Gears 3, but c'mon, make a new game.

Kinda bummed how Hyper Light Drifter seemed to just pass the entire staff by. Apart from Jeff saying he played it last week or so no one has brought it up and it's a really good game.
