Yeah he sounds like a troll. But he's really, really bad at it. Very obvious he's just trying to get a rise out of you so it isn't even entertaining. 0/10 get better trashcan.

@TerraMantis:

I will have to agree that the actual plot is just okay (I think it is only interesting if you put it into the perspective of the detailed world you are put in, which isn't an excuse for it's okayness). However, I have to disagree about the chuckle.

Some of that can be chalked up to voice acting direction. While I think most of the lines are spoken pretty well, I felt like the reason everyone chuckled is because they were trying to comfort themselves a little bit. Lordran is absolutely fucked and everything wants to kill you. Most of the games' aesthetic revolves around an atmosphere of oppression and utter hopelessness, with sudden sparks of hope to drive you forward. The bonfires are a pretty obvious symbol here. The way your character bows in reverence (and when I first saw it I would assume relief) when you meet with Gwynevere is also a good sign of this. So personally I felt the chuckle was like "Haha... we're all so fucked... but we must press on anyway." I think Siegmyer and some of the really twisted people are the only ones with genuine chuckles, but that is because they are a bit messed up in the head or don't really understand how fucked everything is.

@Casey25:

Well Demons Souls is a PS3 exclusive, so you can't play that on PC or 360. It is definitely not required to enjoy Dark Souls but it is interesting to see the changes in the game. Personally, I think Dark Souls is better (even if Demons Souls has more challenging encounters, who cares when you can farm up 50 Full Moon Grass), but both are a ton of fun and worth playing.

I wouldn't say that the story is bad because it isn't terribly involved. If the actual plot of Dark Souls was trying to pull you in and make you think but completely failed then it would be bad. I would not call Megaman 2's story bad, just minimalistic because that isn't what they wanted to do with their game.

There is plot to the individual NPCs which is pretty great, but that doesn't really involve the main plot that much so I can't really count that. But the lore and those plot lines I think prove that FROM can write.

Reporting back in. With my silly Darkmoon STR/Faith build I was able to kill Manus in NG+ with Grant. Had to be very patient but I was able to kill him just fine. Didn't take a lot of hits though since Grant does so much goddamn damage.

All of his attacks are pretty easy to dodge with a fast roll or you can block them if you have decent stamina and a shield with decent stability. The important thing about the 6-hit combo is to back out as he is doing it, eventually he will knock himself away enough that you will only take 3-4 of the hits.

As for the dark magic it is just a simple pattern. One needs you to rush towards him, the other needs you to rush away from him. It's good practice for people who use the new sorceries in PvP. Just identify which spell startup will indicate which pattern and prepare.

In short, Manus is a fight about endurance and punishing his attacks. It is a rough fight (and you can cheese it but doing that is for lamers) and very demanding, but you can pretty much apply what you do to every Dark Souls encounter and get through it. This is coming from a guy who was still using a +15 Battleaxe at the point I fought him in NG+. Crazy, I know.

Nier. But my PS3 is undergoing the YLOD right now and I have no money to replace it so I have only gotten 3 hours into it. Sucks hard (that I can't play it, not the quality of Nier).

Why should achievements matter about the DLC anyway? Isn't completing the DLC an achievement in of itself? Do you need an indicator on the screen and a point total to tell you that you were able to overcome a challenge? Sorry, I don't mean to sound like a dick but it doesn't really make any sense to me. The DLC is just more Dark Souls. More areas, more encounters, more enemies, more bosses, more cool items and spells, more cool backstory. It also added some sort of PVP arena thing, but I try and steer clear from that because I have heard of a lot of hackers in there (I play on PC).

Are you playing on Impossible? If not, then the game only gets easier from there. Almost laughably so. This is coming from someone who has only played Classic Ironman.

I played it and thought it was okay, but it just isn't my kind of game. I am not bashing it for it, but a more simplistic and streamlined Dwarf Fortress is not what I am interested in. So fine game, just not my bag.
