Games I've Played in 2018

My annual list to keep track of games I play each year. As with all of my previous lists, this one includes more than simply games released this year--it includes all games I have played in 2018 regardless of release date. This year is rather special in that it is the first time in over fifteen years that I have built a PC! Let the games begin!

List items

  • Every bit as relaxing and inviting as I had heard. I've never played a game that feels like all the adventure of a cross-country road trip every time you boot it up.

  • The first step in my quest to eventually play through The Witcher 3. I have been reading through the Andrzej Sapkowski books, beginning with the short story collections, as I gradually work my way through the first entry in the series. The atmosphere and grim twists in quest lines are keeping me hooked despite not being wowed by the gameplay.

  • For someone who really enjoyed Super Meat Boy but was terrible at it, this game scratches a similar itch without being quite as punishing.

  • This may be my favorite puzzle game of the past few years. The wealth of options and degree of ingenuity that can go into any solution is fun and amazing. My inventions rarely top the charts in any area except frugality, but I always have a great time building a new rig.

  • The PC release this year is a great chance to jump back into one of the more different but thoroughly enjoyable Final Fantasy games. I am such a huge fan of the x2 and x4 speed up options--there are numerous rpgs that I would love to revisit if I could speed through grinding and travel like I can in this release.

  • Yes, it has really been that long since I've had a PC. I am now finally catching up on the reemergence of the point-and-click adventure game genre. I have a lot of games on my 'to play list,' and this was at the top. Short, satisfying, and refreshing. I can't wait to play the rest of the games in this series.
