I think Dream Daddy's strongest argument was that it made you forget about who you are by creating a world in which gender and orientation feel legitimately trivial. If there were more arguments like that then it's place would have felt more earned. Instead it feels like its only on this list out of stubbornness, which is a bummer.
I want them to sell each other on these games, not wear each other down. It feels like negative opinions held more sway than positive opinions this year. Which sucks because I feel like that mindset leads to picking the least offensive choices rather than the best ones. I want PUBG to be GOTY because people made the best arguments for it, not because people made the best arguments against the other choices.

I played Witcher 2 for the first time last august and it still totally holds up, and in some ways I'd argue its even better than the 3rd. Also fuck Lightning Returns, but it sounds like you have the same sickness as me and must beat it anyways, I don't envy you. There's such a treasure trove of old RPGs man. Its too bad they're so long that no one ever really seems to beat them all.
It's kind of a bummer how Xcom 2 just came and went. I have some minor complaints, as you mentioned, they haven't fully realized the meta game they're going for, and the difficulty curve is maybe even more insane than it was in its predecessor (but in kind of an awesome way). But despite that and its technical difficulties Xcom 2 might be the most pure fun I've had with a video game all year. I had some hopes for the mainstream success of strategy games after Enemy Unknown, but after the tepid reception to this awesome game, it's starting to feel like EU was just a matter of being the right game at the right time. I remember 2012 being a pretty dull video game year at least.
I'm doing my first play through of Human Revolution with a friend right now and its been pretty underwhelming so far. It seems like for everything this game does well, there's some other game that does it way better, which is probably the doomed fate of any game that tries to let you play whichever way you want. At the very least I would hope having such a huge budget would allow it to do some interesting things with the setting, but the world building feels really lazy. My favorite part so far is making fun of Adam Jensen's voice. Hearing that the sequel is kind of just more of the same probably means I won't play it.
I disagree with the idea that the voice actor of a character should be representative of that character's image or background. I think the opposite goes further in providing diversity and inclusion. As long as a person can portray the 'spirit' of a character through their voice, they should be able to perform as so without the implication that a person who actually has that background is being excluded.
And because some people will think it matters: I am african-american/black.
Totally. I was at this panel one time where a voice actor was asked what she liked most about voice acting, and her answer was that it allowed her to get roles regardless of her age, race, or gender. Not to mention you don't have to be beautiful to be a voice actor. That sounds like a really cool thing, and we shouldn't push back against that.
@pkmnfrk: Personally I always felt like people were jumping to conclusions when they assumed the NX was a successor to the Wii U and not the 3DS. The initial announcement was made to reaffirm Nintendos commitment to the console and handheld market and the 3DS is older by about 2 years. Leaks, rumors, and speculation have all pointed towards it being a console but those are leaks rumors and speculation. This is the first official confirmation we have that the system they're releasing is in fact positioned as a replacement to the Wii U.
As for the historical precedent of a 5 year life cycle Sega wasn't following up the Dreamcast with something new so they didn't have to give a shit how cutting their console life cycle short would make people feel. And I would argue that OG xbox was able to do that because as a new console manufacturer expectations for them were very different.
