@canadianmath: I think the problem is we needed all of this talk about the system being unfair way before this election. I saw very little protesting against the system, only against Trump.
Maybe something will change for 2020 but the legwork for that has to begin before we get deep into another election.
Considering that the only way republicans can get the president in this day and age is through the electoral college (see Bush, Trump), this will never change. Especially now that they have the president, the congress and get to put forward a new supreme court justice. The majority of people hasn't wanted a republican president since George H.W. Bush.
It wouldn't change if the Democrats controlled everything either. It would take a Constitutional Amendment and therefore would require 2/3 of both houses to approve. Neither party wants that.
There's another way. The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact seeks to effectively abolish the Electoral College through state level legislation. Every state that joins the compact promises to award their points to whichever candidate wins the popular vote, but it doesn't take effect until enough states have joined to secure a majority. Right now they have 60% of what they need. Its the surest way to change to a popular vote, if that's a change you want then spread the word while people are still angry.
This is what I feared would happen if Hillary Clinton was the democratic nominee. She's been under a political spotlight for a quarter of a century, and that left a lot of baggage. There was no enthusiasm behind her, she shouldn't have even run. Over the next 4 years I'll take whatever comfort I can in the fact that I cast every vote I could to keep Trump out of office. I just hope that this fires up and strengthens the democratic party as a whole, and they come back in 2020 like a storm. Maybe yet another example of the candidate with fewer votes winning will help the popular vote movement gain traction.
Say what you will about the sorry state of X-men as a film universe, they've put out some pretty good fucking movies, and that's what I'm looking for anyways. Hopefully this movie is one of those, and not one of the garbage ones. It seems like it's going in the right direction, I'm into the idea of a mature R rated Wolverine movie, seems like a more personal kind of story, and I kinda dig seeing him as an old man. This trailer made me realize I've been watching Jackman play Wolverine since I was like 9 years old, so it really fits. Thumbs up, Trailer.
My primary concern is that this system won't be very powerful if most of the guts are in that tablet thing. So I'm kind of hoping it will be at least 300, just to make sure it has some decent parts in it, I'd be totally fine with a 400 dollar price point.
I'm almost certainly going to pick it up once it gets an exclusive I care about (most likely that new Mario game). The console/handheld hybrid thing is super compelling to me. Aside from some rare occasions, almost all of my handheld gaming is done in a recliner in front of a 55 inch TV. If I can blow my Pokemon, and Monster Hunter up on to that, play them with a real ass controller, and get some decent HD graphics, then I will be super happy. Getting to occasionally play Zelda and Mario at work or in bed is just an added bonus. Focusing all of their developing power to a single device will really help their dry spell issue, and for anything less than 400 dollars, it would feel like a deal considering what it would've cost if I had to buy a new console and a new handheld, which history shows I am just enough of a sucker to do.
